First Stand 2026 G2 Esports Preview: From Near Elimination to Domestic Domination
G2 Esports was one game away from elimination. A loss to Fnatic on the final day of the regular season would have seen them miss out on the playoffs and First Stand. However, they managed to win and dominated the playoffs. In the playoffs, they only lost two games. Those losses were against Karmine Corp in the grand final. Can G2 continue the momentum and finally restore the hope from 2019?
G2 Esports First Stand Roster

- Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik – German Top Laner
- Rudy “SkewMond” Semaan – French Jungler
- Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther – Danish Mid Laner
- Steven “Hans Sama” Liv – French Bot Laner
- Labros “Labrov” Papoutsakis – Greek Support
G2 kept their roster from 2025. The roster struggled to find their footing last year. In LEC Winter and Spring, they lost in the grand finals to Karmine Corp and Movistar KOI, respectively. The loss to Karmine Corp in the Winter final meant they missed out on First Stand.
Caps As the Lynchpin
For years, Caps have been the hope of the West. Few have been able to match up to their Eastern counterparts like Caps has. The only player who can match his skill against the East is Inspired. Even years later, fans look to Caps to carry the G2 flag. The grand final against Karmine Corp was the perfect example of Caps’ role in the team. When Karmine Corp fought away from Caps or ensured that he had no agency in the game, G2 struggled.
That does not mean the rest of the G2 players can not perform. What is more pivotal to glean from this is that G2 thrives around Caps. If he is in a dominant position, the rest of the team will perform around him. SkewMond and Labrov have had average international performances. They will need to step up to enable Caps to be G2’s lynchpin.
The Hope Dwindles
With every failed international performance, the Western hope dwindles. Many cling to the 2019 G2 team, but we are moving further away from that year. Since then, G2 have only managed one best-of-five series victory against an Eastern team. That win came against a failing Top Esports at the 2024 Mid-season Invitational. With only four Eastern teams, G2 has a chance to deliver an international performance for fans to remember. The only team that looks unbeatable for them is Gen.G Esports. However, no one appears to be at the level of the LCK giants. A grand final appearance could bring back the hope of the West. When there is delusion, there is hope.
Prediction

G2’s path to the Knockout Stage is a difficult path to navigate. Bilibili Gaming and FearX are both teams that G2 can beat on their day. Each team has weaknesses, weaknesses that G2 can exploit. However, they should not look past Team Secret Whales. If G2 fails to perform at the Vietnamese outfit, they could finish last in the group. One danger for G2, even if they qualify for the Knockout Stage, is a potential meeting with Gen.G Esports. G2 will likely need a first-place finish to dodge the LCK Cup winners.
G2’s Path to Hope
G2 will play their first series against Team Secret Whales. A victory in that series will see them play against the winner of Bilibili Gaming and FearX. Losing to Team Secret Whales will put them in an elimination match against the aforementioned teams. Two wins in the group will earn qualification to the Knockout Stage. Two losses will eliminate them from the competition. Should they qualify, they will face one of the teams from Group B. The team they play will depend on the position in the group.
