Netflix Drops Trailer for BTS documentary, “BTS: THE RETURN”
Netflix just dropped the trailer for the highly anticipated BTS Documentary, “BTS: THE RETURN.” The documentary releases on March 27, just in time for BTS’s comeback album, Arirang.
The Trailer
“BTS: The Return” will follow the South Korean septet as they prepare for their long-awaited comeback following a hiatus. The members spent 18 months serving their mandatory military service, a familiar break point for South Korean boy bands. All able-bodied South Korean men are required to serve in the military before the age of 28, and this requirement forces K-pop boy bands to take lengthy breaks while their members serve their 18 months. These breaks can often lead to a steep decline in the band’s relevance and even to disbandment.
After returning from the military, the trailer shows BTS members traveling to Los Angeles to work on their new album. Reunited at last, the seven members discuss the incredible pressure and expectations placed on their return. Keep in mind, K-pop bands release music far more regularly than Western acts, so BTS has been absent from the scene far longer than ever before. The anticipation from fans is at its peak, and this album is positioned as one of the biggest comebacks in the industry’s history.
The members are shown in the trailer working on recording new music, but there are several heartwarming scenes of the members bonding and reconnecting. The documentary promises to give fans an unobstructed look at the trials, tribulations, joy, and rediscovery of the band as they prepare for their new album, Arirang.
Arirang

The band’s announcement of the new album’s title, Arirang, was met with excitement, especially from South Korean fans. “Arirang” is the name of a beloved Korean folk song that acts as an unofficial anthem and symbol of Korean joy, sorrow, resilience, and unity. In 2012, the song was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as a symbol of Korean resistance during the Japanese occupation.
The song is said to have originated in the mountainous Jeongseon region of Korea as far back as the 18th century. The first known recording of the song was made in 1896 by three South Korean students studying at Howard University. The recording is one of the earliest ever and is housed in the U.S. Library of Congress due to its historical significance.
Arirang is BTS’s fifth studio album, and it is scheduled for release on March 20, 2026, across music streaming platforms.
The Band

If you’re wondering what all the hoopla is about, BTS is a South Korean boy band under Big Hit Entertainment that debuted in the summer of 2013. The group has seven members, leader RM, eldest Jin, rappers J-Hope and Suga, and singers Jimin, V, and youngest Jungkook.
The band comes from humble beginnings; their company was extremely small, and all seven members lived in a one-bedroom apartment during their first years as a group. The group found increased success in 2014 with the release of their song “I Need You,” and the ascent continued from there. BTS has gone on to helm the Hallyu Wave, becoming not only the biggest group in K-pop but one of the most successful boy bands in history. They’ve broken numerous records and racked up absolutely insane numbers on YouTube since their inception.
BTS fans, or ARMY, all over the world have resonated with the group’s triumphant, underdog rise, deep lyrical stylings, theatrical, dance-heavy music videos, and humble personalities. While the group served their mandatory military service, all seven BTS members released solo work, to great success, proving you don’t have to leave the group to pursue solo content.
Fans worldwide anticipate the new album and accompanying tour, which promise to make Arirang one of the biggest releases in music this year.
