“Alien Earth’s” Sydney Chandler, who stars as the first human/synthetic hybrid, Wendy, recently told Deadline that production on season 2 of the hit series will start soon. Set in the universe that began with Ridley Scott’s “Alien” in 1979, “Alien: Earth” was created by Noah Hawley and takes place two years before the events of 1979’s “Alien.”

With its iconic alien Xenomorph, 1979’s “Alien” launched a massive franchise that has spawned numerous films, video games, books, and comics. However, “Alien: Earth” marks the first television series in the beloved franchise.

“Alien: Earth” premiered on FX and FX on Hulu in the United States (and on Disney+ internationally) on Aug. 12, 2025, and was renewed for a second season in November 2025.

The daughter of Kathryn and Kyle Chandler, Sydney Chandler made her film debut with a supporting role in Olivia Wilde’s “Don’t Worry Darling” in 2022 before landing the lead role in “Alien: Earth” in 2023. Chandler was recently honored with the Rising Star Award at the Texas Film Awards, where Deadline spoke with her about “Alien: Earth’s” highly-anticipated second season.

Very little has been revealed about “Alien: Earth’s” upcoming second season, but Chandler confirmed that the season will begin filming in May of this year. The season will be filming at Pinewood Studios in London.

With production beginning in May of this year, it will likely be a while before “Alien: Earth” returns to the small screen. In the meantime, curious viewers can catch up on Season One of the series on Hulu and Disney+.

In addition to Chandler’s Wendy, the series also stars Timothy Olyphant as a synthetic named Kirsh, as well as Alex Lawther as human medic (and Wendy’s brother) Joe Hermit, Essie Davis as scientist Dame Sylvia, Samuel Blenkin as Prodigy CEO Boy Kavalier, and Babou Ceesay as cyborg Morrow.

“Alien: Earth” explores humanity’s attempts to achieve immortality through various means, including humans enhanced with technology known as cyborgs, fully synthetic beings known as synthetics, and synthetic bodies with downloaded human consciousness known as hybrids.

The main conflict of the series kicks off when a deep-space research vessel carrying some very dangerous alien cargo crashes on Earth. Wendy soon discovers she has a strange connection with the Xenomorphs, making her far more dangerous than her creators imagined.

Chandler told Deadline that she has not yet seen any scripts for season 2, so it remains to be seen where the story will take Wendy and her troupe of hybrids known as the “Lost Boys.”

What’s Next For The “Alien” Franchise?

As for other stories in the Alien franchise, “Alien: Romulus 2,” a direct sequel to 2024’s “Alien: Romulus,” is currently in production. Not much has been revealed about the plot of the film, but Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson are set to return. Although “Alien: Romulus” director Fede Alvarez will not be directing the sequel, he remains involved in the production process.

In the world of video games, several “Alien” projects are currently in some stage of development, including a sequel to “Alien: Isolation” and a new non-VR version of “Alien: Rogue Incursion.”

Although there have been rumors of a third “Alien vs. Predator” film, nothing has been confirmed in that regard. The “Predator” franchise has been expanding on its own, however, with the releases of animated anthology “Predator: Killer of Killers” in June 2025 and feature film “Predator: Badlands” in November 2025.
