Halloween is nearing, and Netflix’s spooky season continues with the release of a new horror film, Don’t Move. Iris visits the cliff wherein her Mateo slipped off in a tragic hiking accident. She considers subjecting herself to the same fate until a stranger talks her out of it. Richard, played by Lenox, Massachusetts native Finn Wittrock, tells Iris a story of how a car accident killed his grad school girlfriend, Chloe, and left him immobile for two months. He says the words “broken doesn’t have to mean hopeless.”
Richard seemed to be a kind Samaritan, but was a serial killer in disguise, and Iris unfortunately only realizes it too late. He tases her, binds her wrists and ankles, and kidnaps her. Richard injects Iris with a paralytic drug that would trap her in her body. Iris battles time and her body to save herself in an ordeal with a gut-wrenching ending, teaching her a valuable lesson in life and about herself.
A Gripping Survival Narrative
Don’t Move will kick off one’s adrenaline as they watch Iris fight for survival. Co-directed by Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, the movie has become a high-profile feature. It is also produced by the horror legend Sam Raimi. American Horror Story alumni Finn Wittrock plays the horrifyingly charming Richard, who can manipulate his feelings and those around him. Many viewers agree that there’s nothing new about Don’t Move, but avid viewers disagree. The concept of her being unable to move for almost the entirety of the film, with unforeseen plot twists and the inescapable realism of being hunted, is unlike any other movie.

Spoiler alert: When the movie ends, Iris thanks Richard. And that thank you might be more sincere than what initially implies, granted Richard’s role in changing her mind, despite being under murderous motives. Iris is finally free from the things that paralyze her, both physical and emotional. Despite being a thriller, Iris becomes a different person in the end due to the journey she endured. Iris evolves from someone hopeless to someone with hope. There’s a reason it’s top 1. Don’t Move is now streaming on Netflix.
