The Denpa Men will end service on Dec. 7 at 11:00 JST, which is Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. PT and 9 p.m. ET, according to Gematsu.
Developer Genius Sonority made the announcement on the game’s official website. The free-to-play RPG will shut down roughly two years after its original launch.
“Since the launch of the service, we have worked every day to bring you a better game,” Genius Sonority said in its statement. “However, we have concluded that it will be difficult to continue providing a service that meets your expectations, and we have decided to end the service. We would like to express our deepest gratitude for your support, and we sincerely apologize for having to make this announcement.”
What Happened With The Denpa Men Shutdown
Genius Sonority cited difficulty maintaining a service that meets player expectations as the reason for ending the game. According to Anime News Network, the studio stopped accepting new purchases of in-game Jewel currency and other paid items on Tuesday, ahead of the December shutdown.
The Denpa Men launched as a timed Nintendo Switch exclusive on July 22, 2024, before arriving on iOS and Android on March 10, 2025. The game later received a Nintendo Switch 2 version on April 6, 2026.
What It Means For Players And Purchases
Genius Sonority has not yet detailed how refunds will work, but the game’s website said it will share information about refunds for unused in-game currency after service ends. Players holding unspent Jewels will need to watch the official site for those instructions once the game goes offline.
Because the studio has already cut off new purchases of Jewels and other paid items, anyone still playing can no longer buy additional currency ahead of the shutdown.
Background On The Denpa Men Series
The Denpa Men is the latest entry in Genius Sonority’s Denpa Men franchise, which began with Denpa Ningen no RPG on Nintendo 3DS in Japan in February 2012. Nintendo brought that original game west later the same year as The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave.
The series added three more 3DS installments, two of which, The Denpa Men 2: Beyond the Waves and The Denpa Men 3: The Rise of Digitoll, also released in Western markets. Genius Sonority shifted the franchise to free-to-play with The Denpa Men RPG Free! in Japan in July 2014, followed by The New Denpa Ningen no RPG on smartphones in February 2017. Across the series, players use their device cameras to find and capture Denpa Men in the real world, then build parties to explore dungeons.
