Daily Devotional Friday Faith | June 26, 2026

In dailly devotional, woman reads the Bible that's full of scripture on God's goodness and mercy.

Happy Friday! It’s time for your daily devotional. When some people hear, “God is good,” they immediately say, “All the time!” And this is true, but rather than respond with a cliché or catch-phrase, you should know there’s a solid truth behind it. In today’s daily devotional, not only is the Bible filled with evidence of God’s goodness, but it also specifically states that God is good.

Know His Character

How do you know someone’s character? You know them relationally, or by spending time with them. As a shepherd boy, David spent many hours alone in the fields tending his father’s sheep. However, he wasn’t alone. God was with him. When reading his psalms extolling God’s goodness, it’s evident that David knows God.

In Psalm 100:5, David praises God for His goodness, because throughout his entire life, God has been good to him: “For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” In your daily devotional, God invites you to know Him by spending time with Him.

God equipped David with musical gifts. As a musician, he was a composer and a lyricist. Throughout his psalms, he praises the Lord in good times and bad. He cries out to God in his darkest moments, and then he extols God for His deliverance and goodness. In Psalm 34:8, David invites us to “taste and see” that God is good. In other words, get to know Him. Personally experience the goodness of God; it’s available for everyone.

In Psalm 118, David begins by encouraging you to thank the Lord for His goodness. Scripture declares that God is good to all, the just as well as the unjust. So, instead of quoting a catchphrase, utter words from experiential knowledge, for He is a relational God. He created man for fellowship, and His arms are always open toward us. In today’s daily devotional, recall a time when you personally experienced God’s goodness.

Everlasting Mercy

Mercy is a flow of God’s goodness. Because of God’s goodness, His mercy is extended to us. For our sins, we deserved God’s wrath. Instead, Jesus bore our sins and the punishment we deserved. The Hebrew word for mercy is plural because God’s mercies are so great. They can’t be expressed in singular form. Lamentations 3:22 declares that God’s mercies are what keep us alive.

Not only are His mercies great toward us, but they’re everlasting. In other words, they have no end. Also, God displays His creativity through His mercy. Verse 23 of Lamentations 3 proclaims that every morning He shows us mercy in new ways. Therefore, you should get up every morning praising God for His mercies, for they are an expression of His love.

David experienced God’s mercy. He had gotten off track by lusting, committing adultery, and then murder. When David cried out to God, he pleaded for the multitude of His tender mercies. David knew God was merciful. Deserving condemnation, David received God’s mercy. In today’s daily devotional, praise God for His everlasting mercy toward you.

God’s Mercy is to All Generations

In Friday’s daily devotional, God’s goodness and mercy didn’t extend just to David’s generation, but to all generations. God’s mercy reaches your generation and the generations that follow. The only way to know God is good is through a relationship, not clichés. We’re encouraged throughout Scripture to seek the Lord, call upon Him, and draw near. In today’s daily devotional, experience God’s goodness and unfailing mercy for yourself.
