Daily Devotional Wednesday Wisdom | May 27, 2026

In daily devotional, two men seeking spiritual thruth and revelation seek understanding in God's word.

It’s Wednesday, and time for your daily devotional. In Matthew 13:10, Jesus’ disciples asked Him why He taught in parables. They were curious about His teaching method, especially since they had to ask for the meaning of the Parable of the Sower. In their quest for understanding, they knew that Jesus spoke God’s truth. In today’s daily devotional, Jesus speaks spiritual truths in mystery, fulfilling prophecy.

Revealer of Secrets

When the disciples asked about parables, Jesus answered them by showing that they were anointed to receive. In verse 11, Jesus says, “Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.” God reveals spiritual matters to the children of His kingdom, those who seek Him. Daniel calls Him a revealer of secrets, for the secret things belong to Him, and He reveals them by His Spirit.

When you receive with an open heart and spiritual understanding, you grow in grace, and more is entrusted to you. The word can’t penetrate hardened hearts. In your daily devotional, your heart must be fertile ground to receive God’s word.

Entrusting Spiritual Truths

Jesus didn’t entrust spiritual truths to unbelievers but to His disciples, as their hearts were open to receive God’s word. In verse 13, Jesus says, “Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.” Those without spiritual insight can’t understand His parables. Your daily devotional shows the children of the world are wise in the things of this world, but they are not wise in spiritual matters.

Scribes and Pharisees were experts in Mosaic law; they knew all the rituals and obligations of the temple. However, they weren’t faithful to God’s word. Jesus spoke parables, such as the Good Samaritan, the Prodigal Son, and the Rich Fool, against Israel’s religious leaders. Knowing these parables were spoken against them made them angry. They wouldn’t reflect and repent. In today’s daily devotional, Jesus taught not to cast your pearls before swine because they won’t treasure them, but treat them as common.

Fulfilling Old Testament Prophecy

In verse 14, Jesus points back to Old Testament prophecy as the reason the Messiah would speak in parables: “And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive.” Those who are unspiritual can’t perceive the spiritual. In 1 Corinthians 2:6, Paul says the wisdom of God is spoken in mysteries and in hidden wisdom. But God reveals them by His Spirit, for only the Spirit knows the deep things of God.

In verse 14, he continues, “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” In this daily devotional, believers who don’t understand but desire to learn may ask, seek, and knock to know the mysteries of God.

You Can Understand All Mysteries

In Wednesday’s daily devotional, Jesus states that truths aren’t intentionally withheld from unbelievers. Their hearts prevent them from receiving: “For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed.” Their own unbelief blocks their spiritual discernment. But Jesus tells them, “But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.” In today’s daily devotional, with God’s Spirit within, you can understand all mysteries.
