Daily Devotional Wednesday Wisdom | May 20, 2026

In daily devotional, a Bible is near the seaside along with other items indicatng relaxation and study.

It’s Wednesday, and time for your daily devotional. As a believer, you are part of God’s Kingdom. It’s not a physical kingdom, but a spiritual one that’s within you. Matthew is the only gospel writer who uses the phrase “Kingdom of Heaven”; the other writers use “Kingdom of God.” In some parables, Matthew also uses the latter. In today’s daily devotional, God gives you authority to operate in His kingdom that includes righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Taught by the Seaside

Matthew 13 contains parables Jesus taught by the sea side as large multitudes gathered. He eventually sat inside a boat to teach as they stood on the shore. Jesus ensured He was both seen and heard by the swelling crowd eager to hear His teaching. Jesus was anointed to teach; it was a part of His ministry that also included preaching, and healing. In this daily devotional, as a kingdom believer, God has called you to win souls by spreading the gospel to the lost.

Fishers of Men

In daily devotional, fishermen are seen catching fish by the shore with a large net.

In verses 47-48, Jesus speaks another parable comparing the kingdom to something their eyes were probably beholding at that moment: “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.” As they were near boats, some nets were probably visible to the crowd. Jesus may have been holding one as He compared it to the kingdom.

As fishermen cast nets into the sea to catch fish for food, Jesus calls disciples to be fishers of men to win men’s hearts to Christ. In your daily devotional, Proverbs 11:30 says that He who wins souls is wise because wisdom is doing what is pleasing to God.

Men of All Nations

In Jesus’ parable, the net (gospel) is cast into the sea (world) to catch fish of all kinds. The gospel is to be preached to the world, drawing men of every nation, as it’s God’s will that all men be saved and come into the knowledge of Christ. Christ came not only for the Jews, but to be a light to the Gentiles.  In verse 48, Jesus says that when the net was full, the fishers brought their boats to shore and began to separate the good from the bad.

When the gospel message goes out, it will draw some who will prove unfaithful to Christ. Carnality was prevelant in the Corinthian church. James rebuked the double-minded, and Jude warned of lascivious men “crept in unawares” who denied Christ. In Matthew 10:22, Jesus declares, “He that endureth to the end shall be saved.” However, some will corrupt themselves being “spots in your feasts” and “clouds without water.”

Jesus taught that the tare would grow with the wheat; therefore, evil men will dwell within your ranks, but God will separate them at the end of the age. In this daily devotional, don’t let the bad fish distract you from operating righteously in the kingdom. God knows those who are His, so remain steadfast and depart from iniquity.

In Thursday’s daily devotional, God is the great Separator of the righteous from the unrighteous. Your goal is to please Christ as you walk in the kingdom authority He has given you and win souls. In today’s daily devotional, God has good things in store for those He gathers unto Himself in righteousness, peace, and joy.
