Daily Devotional for Tuesday Thoughts | April 14, 2026

The daily devotion shows and open Bible.

It’s Tuesday, and time for your daily devotional. The scribes and Pharisees were always trying to discredit Jesus. Yet Jesus never failed to confess who He was or what He was sent to do. In His second “I AM” statement, He proclaims in the temple, “I am the light of the world.” In today’s daily devotional, let Jesus be your light.

First Cast a Stone

In John 8:2, Jesus goes into the temple early and sits down to teach. Instead of waiting until He finishes to bring up a personal matter, religious leaders bring a woman right in the midst of Jesus’ message, accusing her of adultery. They state the law commands stoning, but ask what He says. They want to see if Jesus will obey the law or say something different, seeking to accuse Him of disobeying Moses’ law.

However, Jesus stoops and writes on the ground. After standing up, He says, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” In your daily devotional, Jesus doesn’t condone sin, nor does He support condemning others out of hatred and spite.

Sin No More

After this, Jesus stoops back down and continues writing. The Pharisees and scribes leave one by one, convicted by their own sins. When Jesus rises, the accusers are gone. Instead of accusing her, He says, “Go, and sin no more.” In this daily devotional, Jesus came to show you the Father’s love and compassion, not condemnation. He came to bring you out of darkness.

Light of the World

When Jesus finishes speaking to the woman, He says something astounding to the crowd listening and watching. In verse 12, He proclaims, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” The Bible declares that God is light and there is no darkness in Him. Jesus is sent from God, the Source of light and life.

The Pharisees immediately begin trying to refute Jesus and then trying to stone Him, yet Jesus walks through the midst of them unharmed. In your daily devotional, darkness does not overcome light, but the Light of Life overcomes the darkness of the world.

Works of the Flesh

Those who don’t have God’s light walk in darkness. In Galatians 5:19, Paul begins listing the works of the flesh, such as adultery, fornication, uncleanness, and lasciviousness. These are all sins; however, in verses 20-21, hatred, wrath, strife, and envy are also listed. While accusing the woman of adultery, the scribes and Pharisees were ignoring their own sins. In this daily devotional, know that you must confess and repent of your own sins, rather than point to others.

Pool of Siloam

In 9:1, He encounters a man blind from birth; therefore, he lives in darkness. Jesus states, “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Jesus makes no claims that He cannot fulfill. He anoints the man’s eyes and tells him to go, wash in the pool of Siloam, and the man returns seeing. The man who dwelt in darkness then beheld light. In today’s daily devotional, sing this line from “Amazing Grace“: “I once was blind, but now I see.”

Jesus is Your Light

In Tuesday’s daily devotional, Jesus’ second “I AM” statement, “I am the Light of the world,” is confirmed throughout Scripture. John 1:4 says, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” In your daily devotional, say out loud, “Jesus is my light!”
