Costco has added a new diaper brand to its lineup for the first time in 25 years, according to USA Today. The brand is Kudos, a chlorine-free diaper that sets itself apart from the retailer’s longtime diaper options.
Before Kudos arrived, Costco shoppers could only choose between Huggies, Pampers and the retailer’s own Kirkland Signature brand, USA Today reported. Kudos marks the first change to that lineup in a quarter century.
What Makes Kudos Different
Kudos diapers are totally chlorine-free, according to USA Today, a distinction that separates them from Costco’s existing options. The diapers use a 100% cotton liner rather than plastic, cutting down on the amount of plastic touching a baby’s skin compared with traditional diapers.
The brand also includes what it calls DoubleDry technology, which is designed to keep babies dry for up to 12 hours, per the report. Kudos diapers come in sizes 1 through 6, covering the same general size range parents expect from major diaper brands.
What It Means For Costco Shoppers
For parents focused on reducing plastic exposure or chlorine processing in their baby’s diapers, Kudos gives Costco shoppers a new choice they haven’t had in decades. The cotton liner and chlorine-free construction could appeal to families who have been buying similar niche diaper brands elsewhere and paying for the convenience of a specialty retailer.
There is a catch, though. Kudos diapers are only available for purchase online at Costco.com, not inside physical Costco warehouses, according to USA Today. That means shoppers accustomed to tossing diapers into their cart during a regular warehouse run will need to order Kudos separately through the website.
Shoppers also don’t need a Costco membership to buy Kudos. Non-members can purchase the diapers on Costco.com by creating a free online account, though they will pay a standard non-member surcharge, per the report.
Background On Costco’s Diaper Lineup
Costco’s diaper selection had remained largely unchanged for 25 years, built around the national brands Huggies and Pampers alongside its private-label Kirkland Signature line. The addition of Kudos represents the retailer’s first real shake-up of that setup, giving shoppers a fourth option built around different materials and manufacturing claims.
The sources don’t detail how Kudos is priced compared to Huggies, Pampers or Kirkland Signature diapers, nor do they specify package sizes or cost per diaper. It’s also unclear whether Costco plans to eventually stock Kudos on warehouse shelves alongside its other diaper brands.
What’s Next
For now, Kudos remains an online-exclusive option at Costco.com. Parents interested in trying the brand can sign up for a free account to purchase them even without a Costco membership, keeping in mind the added non-member surcharge that applies to the purchase.
Shoppers managing a busy household routine might also find useful ideas in make-ahead breakfast recipes for rushed mornings, another area where Costco-style bulk shopping can simplify family life.
