Kindle Unlimited (or KU as many people call it) has been around for several years now. You probably see ads for it on your social media pages, or hear your reader friends talk about it, but you might be wondering “What exactly is Kindle Unlimited?”. Today we’re going to go over what Kindle Unlimited is and how you can access the books within it.
It’s Like Netflix for Books!
You read that correctly. Kindle Unlimited is kind of like a streaming service but for books. The basic concept is that you pay a flat fee each month to have access to an exclusive library of written content that you can read as long as you’re paying that flat fee. The content ranges from fiction to nonfiction books, graphic novels, and even magazines. If you subscribe to KU and Amazon’s audiobook service Audible, there are even books that you can read and listen to at the same time.
How Does Kindle Unlimited Work, Exactly?
The best thing about Kindle Unlimited is that it’s very straightforward. You simply browse the KU library for a book that piques your interest, then click “read for free”. The book will be added to your KU library. Once the books are “borrowed”, you can read them on your phone, tablet, or Kindle e-reader.
You can borrow a maximum of 20 books at a time, which is generally more than enough! If you reach 20 borrows and want to check something new out, you are prompted to return a book before you continue.
How Much Does Kindle Unlimited Cost?
The service cost varies depending on what country you live in, but in the United States, it is about $12 dollars per month. This cost allows you access to thousands of books, graphic novels, and magazines that you would have to pay for individually otherwise. It’s a great deal if you read a lot of books and are constantly looking for new content, or if you read in a specific genre like romance.
What Kind of Books Are Available?
The subscription has a variety of content and book genres ranging from nonfiction to mysteries and thrillers to romance. I have found that romance readers especially love KU because many indie authors like Elle Kennedy publish their works through KU. Mainstream and traditionally published authors like Rebecca Ross also have their content on KU though, so don’t be afraid. There is generally something for everyone on this service.
Conclusion
Kindle Unlimited is one of the services that I think is truly underrated and underhyped. There are thousands of books available through the subscription that you can read at a moment’s notice just by adding it to your Kindle library. If you have an e-reader or like to read on your phone, this service is especially beneficial. For around $12 dollars per month, you can gain access to all of these books at your fingertips, which I think is a pretty great deal.
