Sebastian Stan Says Avengers: Doomsday Could Be Heartbreaking

Avengers Doomsday

Sebastian Stan says he has not seen a finished cut of Avengers: Doomsday and does not know how the film came together, even though he spent months on set reprising his role as Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier. “I haven’t seen the movie, and I don’t know how it turned out,” Stan said, according to Deadline.

Stan’s comments separate what he personally knows about the project from what Marvel has confirmed. The film is set for release on Dec. 18, and Stan’s remarks give fans a cast member’s perspective without revealing plot specifics that have not been made public.

What Stan Said About The Film’s Tone

Asked about what audiences might expect from Avengers: Doomsday, Stan offered a guess rather than a confirmed description of the plot. “I’m sure it’s going to be probably heartbreaking, in a lot of ways. We’ll see who makes it to the next level,” he said.

The phrasing makes clear this is Stan’s own expectation, not a statement about which characters survive or how the story resolves. No details about character outcomes have been confirmed by Marvel or the Russo Brothers, who direct the film.

Reuniting With The Cast

Stan also described what it was like filming alongside longtime collaborators, including Chris Evans, who played Captain America opposite Stan’s Bucky Barnes in earlier Marvel films. “It was very nostalgic to look back, and think about all of these years that we’ve known each other, and grew up together. It’s incredible in that way. It’s been a family and it never stops being that way,” Stan said.

That reunion reflects the scale of the project. Avengers: Doomsday follows 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and brings together heroes from multiple universes, including the core Avengers, the Wakandans from Black Panther, the Thunderbolts from Earth-616, the Fantastic Four from Earth-828 and the original X-Men, according to Deadline.

Production Background

The Russo Brothers began filming Avengers: Doomsday before the script was finished, Deadline reported. That detail helps explain why even cast members like Stan may not have a full picture of how the finished film will play out, since the story was still being shaped during production.

What’s Next

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to open in theaters on Dec. 18. No additional cast interviews, trailers or plot details have been confirmed beyond what Stan and Deadline have reported so far.

Stan has discussed his career choices in other recent interviews, including his decision to turn down The Vampire Diaries earlier in his career.
