Five years after the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, many fans are still dutifully tending to their islands. Despite this, they’re still anxiously awaiting a new game in the series, but Nintendo has been silent about when a new installment might be coming. However, a weird tweet from Nintendo of America has fans wondering if there’s now something over the new horizon for Animal Crossing.

The Tweet That Has Animal Crossing Fans Speculating

According to Games Radar, Nintendo of America’s official X (formerly Twitter) account posted “a short video of a player chilling with a laptop at a desk… with the caption ‘Vibing.'” While this seems just to be a reference to Lofi Girl, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating that some big news about the Animal Crossing franchise could be coming soon.

What Could the Tweet Mean?

Many people wonder if the tweet means that Nintendo will drop some news about a new game in the series in the near future. Since the Nintendo Switch 2 has been a massive hit so far, it would be smart for Nintendo to start making announcements about their large franchises to maintain interest in the system. Others think that the tweet could mean that the original GameCube Animal Crossing could be coming to Nintendo Switch Online soon. Still others think that a spin-off game could be announced, with some speculating that the Lofi Girl reference means it will be a music-making game.

Conclusion

After Isabelle and the Villager were absent from the Mario Kart World roster, Animal Crossing fans deserve something nice. While the tweet could be teasing a future reveal, in all likelihood, it’s just a Lofi Girl reference and nothing more. While we keep maintaining our five-year-old New Horizons islands that took us hundreds of hours to perfect, right now, we can only wonder what the series has in store next.
