Do you know the most-watched show of all time on Netflix? Adolescence has jumped to the number 2 spot, pushing Stranger Things down. Don’t miss out on the stuff everyone is watching. Read on!
Why is Adolescence So Popular?
There are many reasons Adolescence has gained so much popularity. It’s riveting television, and the creators were deliberate as they made it. The four-episode limited series tells the story of a 13-year-old boy arrested on charges of stabbing a girl in his class to death. The characters and the specifics of this story are fictional, but Adolescence is based on real-life events that have shocked communities and wrecked families.
Each episode was filmed in one continuous shot. That means they filmed for one continuous hour, and then there was no editing. They used a camera that’s normally used for action sequences, and it had to be handed off to different members of the crew as they went through the filming. It sounds exhausting and quite difficult! But they did it to make the show uniquely creative for the cast as well.
Owen Cooper, who portrays the main character, Jamie Miller, told Tudum, “I didn’t know any better, so I definitely do want to do it again. It’s better than always cutting and stopping and starting. Because once you’re in it, you’re in it for the whole episode. It just makes it so free.”
The creators also revealed they made Adolescence to ask questions about what’s happening with young men and the pressures they face. Also, in making the series, they found themselves on a journey of questioning “male rage” and who they are as people, fathers, and partners.
Number One!
The number one, most-watched show on Netflix is… Wednesday! Netflix describes it as: “Smart, sarcastic and a little dead inside, Wednesday Addams investigates a murder spree while making new friends — and foes — at Nevermore Academy.”
In case you somehow missed it, Wednesday is based on the 1964 television sitcom The Addams Family about a goth family and their very strange kin. A pair of Addams Family movies were released in the 1990s.
The Netflix series stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, and Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams. Season 2 premieres August 6. It will be released in two parts. Wednesday is experiencing difficulties with her psychic visions, and she decides to return to Nevermore Academy. The new season adds guest stars including Lady Gaga, Christopher Lloyd, Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton, and Osment.
