The third installment of the series will reportedly begin filming in June. According to Digital Spy, Johnson previously confirmed the title could allude to the film’s plot stating that the title gives “little hint of where it’s going”. Johnson went on to tease that the film will follow Blanc as he takes on “most dangerous case yet”.

Knives Out: The Original Film

The original Knives Out movie followed Detective Benoit Blanc as he investigated the mysterious death of bestselling author Harlan Thrombey. Thrombey was the patriarch of a very eccentric family, making Blanc’s job somewhat difficult. Throughout the film, Blanc questions whether one of them could be a murderer. Or, can their behavior be chalked up to the family’s peculiar nature? The original film featured performances from big names such as Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Christopher Plummer, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, and Toni Collette.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

The second installment of the Knives Out franchise was released in 2022 and was titled Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Daniel Craig reprised his role in the sequel, in which he investigates a murder that occurs on a tech billionaire’s private island. Similar to the first film, the plot features several red herrings to throw the audience off. The movie concludes with a big reveal, and in classic murder-mystery fashion, it seems that the entire film culminates in a big plot twist.

How Will This Casting Impact Knives Out 3?

With the addition of these new cast members, you might be wondering where you’ve seen the actors before. Josh O’Connor has most recently been seen in one of the most talked about movies of the summer: Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers. Cailee Spaeny is fresh off her role in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, where she plays young Priscilla Presley.

Additionally, Andrew Scott was most recently pictured in Andrew Haigh’s All of Us Are Strangers. He was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in the film. Scott has also appeared in such films as 1917, Sherlock, and Ripley. His breakthrough performance came in 2019 when he took on the role of The Priest in Phoebe Waller-Bridges’ Fleabag.
