As the Netflix series ‘YOU’ has been confirmed for the last season to be released later this year, it’s important to go over a few details that happened in the last four seasons that you might have missed or forgotten
The series is based on the psychological thriller ‘You’ and its three sequels ‘You Love Me’, ‘Hidden Bodies’ and ‘For You and Only You’ by Caroline Kepnes and developed by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble and it follows the life of a psychotic man; Joe Goldberg (acted by Penn Badgley), who obsesses over women and then stalks them. His main goal is to find true love, well that’s what he tells himself

As the finale is fast approaching Here is a countdown of 5 by details you might have just forgotten or missed:
5. Joe’s Mommy Issues
![Joe as a kid](https://totalapexentertainment.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/D75F7972-2EEC-47C1-8824-C334924FBC1B.jpeg)
At this point, everybody knows it. Joe’s mommy issues are the root of his mental illness. From the glimpses of his past given to us in seasons one, two, and three we can see all Joe ever truly wanted was for his mother to love him. There were several scenes in which his father would beat him just because he lied for his mother and finally the scene where he killed his father for trying to beat his mother.
Joe as a 12-year-old boy showed us how fragile he was and how his past shaped him to become he is now self. When his father died, his mother promised to create a new life for them but later on, she found a new boyfriend and told Joe to follow them out of town. Joe, a little child who had just escaped the domestic abuse caused by his father wasn’t ready to repeat that pattern so he refused, and his mother left him for a man she had met less than two weeks before.
This experience is what shaped Joe Goldberg to become a psychopath desperate for love because we can deduce from all the women he has ‘loved’ that Joe just wants someone he can protect the way he ‘protected’ his mother and someone who would love him unconditionally and never leave.
4. Murder Count

This is the murder count of Joe Goldberg from season 1 to season 4, this murder count includes the names of the victims
In season one, Joe killed 5 people, Benji who died of an allergic reaction, Peach whom he shot and then framed to be a suicide, Elijah whom he pushed off a roof, Ron whom he fatally stabbed and finally Beck, his love interest. Although we never saw how he killed her we can only deduce that he choked her to death from the hand marks on her throat that we see later on in further seasons when he’s delusional.
In season two, Joe goes by Will, the name of the man he kidnapped to steal his identity then later becomes friends with and released, we know, it’s complicated, Joe’s complicated.
Joe kills only three people in this season, Jasper whom he stabbed to death and then turned to ground beef, there was also Henderson, a child molester whom he threw down the stairs. This is the season we see Joe kill his father, his first official murder
In season three, Joe is the calmest he has ever been but that’s just because he’s now a father. Joe’s biggest fear becoming a violent father like his own so he took it down a notch for his son, Henry. This season has the least kills of them all with only two kills being a guy named Ryan who he pushed off a ledge, and also his season 2 love interest and wife, Love Quinn who he burnt to death with their whole house
Season four is where everything gets crazy with 8 kills. Joe practically kills most of the socialites in London, in his defense he believed another person was killing them, turns out he just added a new mental illness to his list. He killed Malcolm, Simon So, Vic, Gemma, Rhys (the person he believed to be the murderer), Hugo, Toms Lockwood, and Edward. He would have also killed himself but he was saved after attempting to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge.
In total, Joe has 18 kills, minus all the attempted ones.
3. People Have Escaped in You

It’s very rare in the series to see people who got away from Joe (he really does a thorough job). So when someone gets away from him we need to give them accolades. Here is the list of people who found out that Joe was a psycho dude and managed to not get killed
In season one, we have Paco. If you have watched the series you would know without Paco the series would have ended in season one. He saw Joe as a father figure and their relationship was truly so cute. In season two we have Will. Will did what Beck tried to do but failed. He convinced Joe to release him after he got kidnapped by Joe so he could steal his identity. He was like Joe’s best friend in the series and always believed Joe was a good guy. Also in season two Ellie was able to escape because she was a kid and Joe’s number one rule is to never hurt the kids.
In season three, Theo an 18-year-old boy who had a crush on Love found out about Joe and Love being murderers, and although Love tried to murder him by pushing him off the stairs, Joe was kind enough to take him to the hospital. There was also Sherry and Cary, an influencer couple who accidentally found out Joe and Love’s secret while having a foursome with them.
Finally, in season four, the only person who escaped Joe was Marianne, the lady he fell in love with in season three and chased to London. Marianne really went through it all, she got kidnapped in the glass cage, left to starve, and separated from her daughter. Some people argue that she was Joe’s worst obsession.
2. Joe’s Dating History

In season one, Joe was with Beck but for a short interval when they broke up, he dated another lady named Karen but they ended up breaking up because he was still obsessed with Beck. In season two, Joe got a new obsession named Love Quinn, he also slept with Delilah (his neighbor), and his first-ever girlfriend, Candace made an appearance.
In season three Joe is still with Love, but he has sex with his neighbor (whom Love killed) and then proceeds to have an affair with a librarian, Marianne (his new obsession). In the last season Joe got a new girlfriend, Kate, she’s everything he ever wanted apparently but we already know Joe too well to buy that story
1. Season 4 Recap
Joe travels to London after murdering his wife and leaving his son at a gay couple’s door just to find Marianne. He eventually finds her but she tells him to leave her alone and he does, he moves on to become a teacher and friends with some socialites thanks to his neighbors. Suddenly these socialites start dropping like flies and he has to figure out who is murdering them before they pin the blame on him.
Joe eventually kills the culprit but then there’s a twist, he finds out he’s the real culprit and he just killed an innocent guy. Joe finds out he actually didn’t let Marianne go but kidnapped her in a glass cage, leaving her there to starve, she eventually escapes with the help of one of his students. Joe tries to commit suicide to end it all but is saved by Kate and even when he tells her all the terrible things he has done she forgives him and tells him they will work it out. Joe blames the murders on his student and kills her boyfriend, having this new fame and money thanks to his girlfriend.
That’s all on the 5 things to remember and I hope YOU do keep them in mind as we are about to watch the finale of You coming August according to Netflix
