YouTuber Banned Over Censored Hellraiser: Revival Video

French YouTuber J0nathan says a YouTube Hellraiser Revival ban wiped out his 190,000-subscriber channel despite censoring nudity in the video.

French YouTuber and streamer J0nathan says YouTube permanently banned his 190,000-subscriber channel over a gameplay video of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, even though he censored nudity in the opening scenes with black boxes. The YouTube Hellraiser Revival ban came despite those edits, according to IGN, and YouTube upheld the decision on appeal by citing its policy against sexually gratifying content.

YouTube told J0nathan in response to his appeal that “explicit content that’s meant to be sexually gratifying isn’t allowed on YouTube,” according to IGN. That is the only policy basis YouTube has given for the ban, and the platform has not detailed how it distinguishes gratuitous content from material tied to a game’s narrative.

What Happened To J0nathan’s Channel

Hellraiser: Revival, developed by Saber Interactive, opens with a sex scene showing a topless woman engaged in BDSM play, followed by a male character with exposed genitalia. J0nathan covered the nudity with black boxes in his video, added a “Not Made for Kids” label, but did not age-restrict the upload.

“Since the rest of the game was just a standard horror title like Resident Evil I figured it didn’t really require an age restriction, and that if anything, YouTube would just apply one later on like they always do,” J0nathan said, according to IGN.

J0nathan had posted more than 3,000 videos over ten years on the platform and said he had never received a prior warning or strike. His first appeal was rejected within minutes, and he said subsequent appeals drew only a generic response: “We’ve reviewed your case and are upholding our decision.” He told IGN he believes the appeal process is now handled by AI rather than human reviewers, though YouTube has not confirmed how the appeals were reviewed.

What The YouTube Hellraiser Revival Ban Means For Fans

The ban is permanent, and YouTube’s rules bar banned users from starting or operating another channel, cutting off J0nathan’s path back to the platform under his own name. He described the toll in blunt terms.

“My channel has been completely deleted, wiping out 10 years of hard work and destroying my main source of income,” J0nathan said, according to IGN. “I’m absolutely devastated. Beyond losing my income, I’m also losing 10 years of hard work and over 3,000 videos.

The emotional impact is huge. Those videos represent a big part of my life, and losing them hurts more than I can describe.”

IGN reported that uncensored gameplay footage of the same Hellraiser: Revival scene remains live on other YouTube channels, though there is no confirmation of whether those channels face different enforcement or any action at all. That leaves an open question about how consistently the policy is applied, one YouTube has not addressed publicly.

Background On The Game And Creator Guidance

Saber Interactive, which developed Hellraiser: Revival, had recommended that content creators label their videos with appropriate age restrictions and sexual-content tags, according to IGN. J0nathan said that after the ban, both fellow creators and Saber Interactive did not respond to his requests for help with his appeal.

There is no public comment from Saber Interactive addressing the ban or J0nathan’s outreach, and YouTube has not explained whether the enforcement action stemmed from automated detection or a human review of the video.

What’s Next

J0nathan’s channel remains deleted as of IGN’s report, with no indication YouTube plans further review. Because the platform bars banned creators from running replacement channels, his options for returning under his own identity appear limited unless YouTube changes its decision or clarifies its policy on narrative nudity versus sexually gratifying content.
