Wolverine and Deadpool: Not Another Movie Review

Deadpool and Wolverine battling each other

Wolverine and Deadpool lovers everywhere united under one roof this weekend to watch the latest installment, directed by Shawn Levy. There will surely be reviews from every corner, telling you what the movie critics have deemed watch-worthy moments and other moments that are not up to snuff.  Rotten Tomatoes will give an oversimplified rating based on these film critics’ reviews, promoting how ‘fresh’ a movie feels based on these reviews. Movies that have been deemed unwatch-worthy in the past are personal favorites to this day, so what makes a movie worth watching?  One word… Deadpool.

Deadpool

This loveable, albeit mentally disturbed, anti-hero has been tickling our funny bones and giving us stitches in our ribs since the original picture was released back in 2016, directed by Tim Miller. With so many iconic one-liners and action-packed gore topped with sexual innuendos, the original picture swept the nation as most people’s favorite new movie. This movie is still so loved that it is quoted to this day.

Deadpool 2

This wholesome family favorite sets the stage for Wolverine & Deadpool. Levy took the layout Miller had and made some moments that felt like reruns or at least, something people had already seen before. It was not as original in storytelling as the first Deadpool, and people were left wanting more from this character. Not Ryan Reynolds, who is gold and will forever be the voice and attitude of Deadpool. The second installment may not have made critics happy but with the cameos and family-oriented storyline, most people were satisfied with the movie.

When the last scene ended and the credits started for Wolverine and Deadpool, so did the clapping of fellow movie patrons. Upon leaving the theater, people had some interesting things to say about what they had spent the last two hours watching. Some left quoting parts of the film, or explaining to their friends the significance of the cameos, while others remarked in a variety of ways that the film was better than they thought it would be. There were a few cringe moments where the flow of the movie was drawn out a bit and had audible mixed reactions of aws and ews for a character named ‘Mary Puppins.’

Some commented that the so-called low blows were overdone throughout the movie like they were trying too hard to make it feel like the first two. Everybody is a critic, but this is what was overheard by yours truly the day after opening night. After speaking with a few ushers, who shall remain anonymous, about the comments they had overheard people say about the film while leaving the theater, they remarked that most reactions and comments were mostly positive, while there were a few comments made about the movie being hard to read or hard to follow

One usher mentioned he had already watched it a few times since opening night, as he had thoroughly enjoyed it with so much to unpack from the variety of cameos in the film. While this Disney movie is rated R, that didn’t stop many parents from bringing their young children along to enjoy the film. As we all know, Deadpool will live on and be there for us when we need a good laugh, a hero who always gives maximum effort and does not disappoint.
