Witchspire: You’re a Witch in a Ghibli Inspired World? Yes Please! – Gamescom 2025

Witchspire trailer reveal
Witchspire trailer reveal

Witchspire is an upcoming survival game with a gorgeous anime art style. The trailer debuted at Gamescom 2025, and it has the look and feel of a Studio Ghibli movie, complete with fanciful creatures, gruesome monsters, and flying spirits. While the trailer didn’t give much indication on what the gameplay would be like, it promised an enticing narrative adventure.

The Witchspire Trailer

The cinematic trailer debuted at the Future Game Show showcase at Gamescom 2025. It featured beautiful images of cute magical creatures, spirit animals flying through the sky, and even a giant flying whale carrying a house on its back as a witch flies by on a broomstick. While the trailer doesn’t overtly state that the game was inspired by Studio Ghibli movies, the creative imagery and bright colors give off the vibe of a Ghibli film, especially with how it juxtapositions the whimsy of the magical world with the threat of terrifying flame-eyed monsters.

That Sounds Amazing . . . But What About the Gameplay?

The trailer feels more like a movie trailer than a game trailer, but according to the game’s Steam page, you can form bonds with creatures, fight monsters, and craft objects for survival. You can also use your magic in unique ways, such as utilizing astral projection to build a house. The game will also feature co-op, where you can team up with other witches to fight the darkness.

Conclusion

I wishlisted Witchspire on Steam as soon as I saw the trailer. The gorgeous art style would have had me hooked even if it were just a walking simulator, but given that you can befriend creatures, fight monsters, and fly on broomsticks, it looks like exactly my kind of game. Add in how it seems to take inspiration from Studio Ghibli, and it looks like it will be something truly special. Witchspire comes to Early Access in 2026, but there isn’t yet an actual release date. However, I’m sure that it will be worth the wait.
