“Witch Watch” Episode 8 Kanshi Gets a Job and It’s Hilarious

"Witch Watch"

Have you been watching “Witch Watch?” If not, you should be! Want to know why? Because it’s funny, has a lot of heart, and it has magic and supernatural creatures. It’s an anime to keep an eye on.

“Witch Watch”

In “Witch Watch,” Nico is a witch who has finished her training and returned home to continue to develop her abilities. She has two familiars, Morhito, a childhood friend who is descended from ogres, and Kanshi, a tengu she met during witch training. She doesn’t know it, but her mother has prophesied danger for Nico. Her familiars know, though they keep it secret from her.

Kanshi’s Part-Time Job Diaries: The Superhero Show

In the first half of “Witch Watch” episode 8, Morihito is yelling at Kanshi because he hasn’t been paying for any of his expenses. He tells Kanshi that he has to get a job, and Kanshi throws a tantrum! He doesn’t want to turn into an adult. Morihito shows him a flyer for a role in a superhero stage show.

Kanshi expects a small part, but luck is on his side because the person who was supposed to fill the hero role has been injured, so he is asked to fill in as Otto-man, a superhero he has never heard of. As usual, Kanshi is full of mischief, and he has his own ideas about how the story should play out. He interrupts rehearsal with his thoughts often, much to the frustration of the director. And, when he meets the man who was meant to play the part of the hero, he has an idea to help him. The audience loves it, but that doesn’t help Kanshi’s financial situation, and he has to compensate Morhito in a more… creative way.

The Side Job

Kanshi’s second job is even funnier than the first. He’s taken in a very large quantity of little screws and he has to pack them into little bags. But he’s so bored and it’s taking so long that he asks Nico to use her magic to make him move faster. She warns him that she cannot reverse the spell. It has to wear off, and that takes 3 days. She also says he cannot fight and that he might have a mental breakdown at the 10-times faster speed.

Of course, Kanshi waves off the warnings and has Nico cast the spell on him. And it’s as disastrous as you would expect. He’s moving so fast that it looks like Nico and Morihito are moving very slowly, and it’s creepy! And time seems to have slowed down too. He realizes it will seem like 30 days have passed by the time it wears off. The mental breakdown begins while Morihito and Nico try to be sympathetic.

Kanshi eats every 30 minutes, and he quickly runs out of clean underwear! Morihito kindly buys more food and underwear for Kanshi. But it’s clear that the situation is difficult on the tengu who finished his part-time work with the screws long before the spell was to wear off. After two days of moving so fast, Kanshi taught himself to speak slower and move slower, but… that was just in time for the spell to wear off.
