On May 31, 2025, Vtuber Lucy Pyre was on the receiving end of a Twitch ban. What did she do to get banned? How are folks reacting? And what did Twitch say? Read on for all of the facts!
What Happened to Lucy Pyre?
Lucy Pyre is a VTuber on the streaming platform Twitch. It’s largely used by gamers, but there are many other types of streams there too. On her channel, Lucy Pyre describes herself as, “hi! im a 2d demon girl with a thirst for blood and chicken nuggets. let’s game, human B).” On May 31, she streamed in the “Pools” category. This category allows streamers to wear swimsuits. The stream went for five hours. During the stream, her demon-like avatar was dressed in a revealing black body suit.
Lucy Pyre took to X to express her anger and question the reason for the ban. She requested details from Twitch so she would know what caused their decision. In the replies to her post, others pointed out the differences in the bottom of the bikini versus the body suit. They suggested it could be the cut of the garment there. But these were guesses.
What Did Twitch Say?
Not a thing. The ban lasted only one day, and she’s back to streaming live as we speak. But, there’s no clarity on why Twitch banned her after the stream on the 31st. Could it be the clothing choice? At some point in the stream, did it somehow linger on one part of the avatar’s anatomy? We don’t know. And we’ll probably never know. As many streamers complain, the guidelines are unclear. Bans seem to be influenced by popularity, appearance, and unknown factors. The frustration continues without a response from Twitch.
What on Earth is a VTuber?
Great question! In case you don’t know this term, let’s do a little explanation.
Simply put, a VTuber is a person who streams live content but, instead of appearing on camera, they use a virtual avatar. The avatar is usually designed by the VTuber so that it represents the persona they want to display. It can be 2D or 3D. The streamer uses a camera for motion tracking, so the avatar displays their actual facial expressions. Streamers use a virtual avatar for a variety of reasons. Some may enjoy the additional self-expression it provides. It may be a case where they aren’t comfortable showing their own face on a stream. Whatever their reason, it looks like a lot of fun!
