‘Walking With Dinosaurs’ Beloved Documentary Set to Launch in 2025

According to BBC Studios on X, it was announced yesterday, June 4th, that the timeless dinosaur documentary Walking with Dinosaurs will return as soon as next year in 2025. This extends to the new Jurassic Park movie slated to come out next summer in July with Jurassic World 4, along with the new Camp Cretaceous sequel that hit Netflix last month in May, Chaos Theory.

The Walking With series had a much different tone to what you would expect from a typical nature documentary, as it has many drama elements that set it apart from the rest. The themes from the original documentary juxtapose the new Jurassic Park films, so this will be a breath of fresh air. This was my childhood, and it is great to see a classic being revived at an attempt with a potential new take as long as the narrative still hits as hard.

BBC Studios and PBS will again join forces already in production with Walking with Dinosaurs, as the new six-part mini-series will be co-produced with ZDF and France Télévisions.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jack Bootle, BBC head of commissioning, specialist factual, said this:

“The original series was one of the most exciting factual shows of all time, and this reinvention builds on that amazing legacy. Each episode is underpinned by the very latest science but is also filled with drama – making this a series for both dino lovers and people who just want to be told a great story. A whole new generation of viewers is about to fall in love with Walking With Dinosaurs.”

Walking With Dinosaurs: A Timeless Classic

The three-time Emmy Award-winning miniseries Walking with Dinosaurs aired over two decades ago and was a huge success with its CGI dinosaurs. It was one of the first of its kind that blew up globally 25 years ago and was narrated by Kenneth Branagh on the Discovery Channel in the United States.

The six-episode series covers the early Triassic Period to the end of the dinosaurs in the Cretaceous Period with its nature documentary style. It had animatronics and CGI creations installed with live footage from multiple locations that span across the world to recreate the feeling of watching prehistory live. In the 20th century, it was the most-watched science program on British TV and had 15 million people watching the first-ever airing episode.

Walking With Dinosaurs: Could More Be on the Horizon?

With the 1999’s Walking With Dinosaurs series came Walking with Beasts in 2001 and Walking with Monsters in 2005, both from BBC. Walking with Beasts covers what happened after the dinosaurs and Walking with Monsters is about the creatures that came before. Depending on how well the 2025 series does, I wouldn’t be shocked if they remade the following two in the future.

Walking with Dinosaurs, Beasts, and Monsters trilogy series’ are available on Apple TV+. Other shows and movies on Apple TV+ include Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Loot, and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole.
