Nobody panic, or move, or breathe, or do anything at all other than sit in quiet reverence because, after a quiet stint following the October 2024 announcement that the triumph of an animated series, The Legend of Vox Machina, would be getting another season, we’ve finally had an update about what’s been going on. At the IGN Live special 10th Anniversary Critical Role panel, which went ahead on Saturday, 7th June 2025, Travis Willingham, the voice of Grog Strongjaw on the show, told excited fans that work on voice acting had begun.
‘We’re working on the Legend of Vox Machina’ Willingham directly said to much awed speculation from the crowd, and as Vox Machina has kept up a consistent and pleasing streak of posting one season a year since it’s inception, fans are hyped up to the Heavens speculating that the new season could be released as early as later this year. With the way Season 3 concluded, this is the best news that any Critical Role and animation super nerd can hope to receive this year!
Splitting The Party
The end of Season 3 saw the Vox Machina regulars doing the worst possible thing that you can possibly do in a story about a group of people: they split the party to go and get on with their own lives. How very dare they! With Scanlan off to properly rekindle his relationship with his estranged daughter, Keyleth and Vax on the way to continue Keyleth’s Aramante, and Percy and Vex back off to Whitstone, it will be interesting to see where the story will go from here and how the wonderful creators will top the nightmare of the Chroma Conclave.
Burning Questions
Vox Machina enthusiasts are absolutely on the edge of their seats in guessing how the party will be brought back together and what burning questions will be given some much-needed answers in the new season. Particularly prominent in the minds of the fans are Vax’s connection to the Matron of Ravens and the ominous warning about what he had to give up to get Percy back from the dead at the end of Season 3 and Pike’s ordeal in the realms of Hell, which hinted at something special about her blood.
Needless to say, there is a lot of material to cover, and hearing that it’s actively being worked on at this very moment is enough to set goosebumps a’shivering along the arm of any self-respecting Critical Role nerd.
It’s Gonna Be Wild
In a post on his official X page, Travis Willingham also penned this: ‘Hard to believe it’s been 10 yrs of @CriticalRole, but the rest of 2025 is gonna be wild. Buckle up! Knowing that the star’s focus is on Critical Role and the characters really does give hope for that 2025 release, particularly considering the campaign is celebrating ten years, though if it does creep into 2026, we really won’t mind. Quality over quantity, after all, but for those who don’t follow the iconic podcast, it’s hard to have to wait to find out what’s going to happen next.
Changes to the campaign?
The Legend of Vox Machina has made some subtle changes to the original Critical Role campaigns as the seasons have been released over the years, including, most recently, Percy’s resurrection arc being handled quite differently and Scanlan’s death being revised to a near self-inflicted coma. There was also a section of the campaign that took place in the mysterious Underdark, though honestly, that’s not off the table yet.
With all this in mind, it will be interesting to see what remains the same in Season 4, considering the snowball effect changes like this tend to have overall. The end of Season 3 hinted at movement from the mysterious Whispered One, which so far stays in line with campaign material and expounds on the big bad that the party brushed against in the very first adventure. The campaign promises ancient dwarven cities, evil cults, and a full-on quest to Elysium, but can all this be fit into a single season?
The Coolest Vox Machina Character
Come on, we all have our favorites, and in a show like Vox Machina, with such an eclectic cast, it’s hard not to pick out someone to resonate with. But who is the most popular character, and why do they shine over their incredibly nuanced and well-written buddies? General consensus is, at the moment, that this honor belongs to Percy De Rolo, or Mr Vengeance-is-a-way-of-life himself. His complex character arc, interesting backstory, and relatable way of dealing with his own personal demons resonate with fans.
That doesn’t mean that the others don’t have their own legions of super fans. All the Vox Machina characters are beloved, to the point where we’re fully expecting that a brand new X page will be set up for Grog’s beard alone.
