New Venom Sequel Trailer Freaks Me Out for 3 Bad Reasons

Don’t get me wrong: the flavor’s there with this Venom sequel trailer, as in the previous two films. Venom’s done cool and correct as it should be according to the comics. With plenty of visceral gore and a heaping load of comedy-infused horror injected, it’s been a recipe for Sony’s success.

So, all the pieces of that successful puzzle are in place with what Sony has recently released for the upcoming third film. I have no qualms about it. I want to be clear on that. Then what are the issues we’re going to talk about with this trailer? We’ll talk about it below. And they may get your feathers ruffled to a degree.

#1: Venom 3’s Official Title Speaks for Itself

We’re suggesting this will be the final Venom film by calling it “The Last Dance.” Okay. I get that. It’s a trilogy.

However, if you’ve watched the Venom sequel trailer already, you’ll notice a certain impending doom of our very own duo in a way we don’t like! I mean, I’m talking alligator tears streaming down my face! Ain’t no way we’re never going to see Venom ever, ever again in the history of Marvel films, and there’s no way this trailer’s implying it.

Oh, but it seems to be. Don’t like it. No sir.

However…. Trailers are known to serve red herrings with a side sauce of vinegar and arsenic just to throw people off, and that’s the hope here. It’s entirely possible this Venom sequel trailer is just that. Because if you’ve been paying attention to these arcs, you’ll remember Eddie Brock was stuck in the MCU universe with none other than our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

However, at the end of the MCU’s “No Way Home,” Brock’s sent back to his own universe with a minor snippet of Venom’s self left behind….

But…. Eddie Brock’s still very much aware of who this Spider-Man is…. Who says Spider-Man doesn’t exist in his universe? And it begs the question: if this is Sony’s last Venom film…

#2: Then What Will Venom Be for Marvel?

https://gty.im/1235953626

I have this thing, you know, where I start to fall in love with the way the character’s portrayed to great effect. That’s just me. And while I thoroughly enjoy Tom Holland’s portrayal of the webslinger, seeing both Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield back in action got me in so many Spider-verse feels.

So, Tom Hardy’s Venom hit home with me. Seeing him gone would make me sad. Does this mean…. We’re going to see another ‘version’ played by Tom Hardy in the MCU? Perhaps. That’s the hope. Because ending this trilogy won’t sit well with me. And if you’re going to end Venom in “The Last Dance,” let’s see the same Venom show back up on the MCU side. Period.

That being said:

#3: Why Couldn’t Spider-Man Exist in Sony’s Universe?

We saw a bit of a tease in Madame WebKraven the Hunter will also be releasing as well. And, best of all, Morbius kicked off a wicked Sinister Six vibe that practically oozes Spider-Man. Practically calls for him, you know?

My question is why can’t Sony maybe reveal Andrew Garfield’s version in this new film? That would make sense given Garfield’s hurrah of getting back into the suit with gusto (just wish we saw something of a bit of it in this Venom sequel trailer). Seemed like it was all riding a bike after decades of never putting your feet on the pedals, and he was zooming at 88 miles an hour with Doc Brown and Marty McFly without even breaking a sweat.

Or something…. Y’all. Just something.

After all, Sony still does have rights to Spider-Man even though Marvel Studios has a deal with them to feature the webslinger in the MCU.

In fact: what the heck would stop Sony from using Holland the way Marvel Studios used Maguire and Garfield? Maybe Holland’s Spider-Man found his way into Venom’s universe for a bit!

Now that…. Would be fun.

That’s All Hypothetical in This Venom Sequel Trailer

For obvious reasons, too. As always, I might be way off. Just guessing here: because you never know what these studio execs are planning with respect to their properties. Now while they’ve been fantastically good on the hush-hush (especially with “No Way Home” as I was stunned about that), bear in mind that’s the MCU for you.

The MCU is not Sony.

However, studios learn and pick up on stuff quite well. So, we shall see. Just how game is Sony in knocking this one out of the ballpark and sending Venom off into the sunset in a way he deserves? We’re hoping in a way that’s utterly majestic. Locked in battle with the red and blue of Peter Parker. Just my take. Do with it what you will.
