Excellent and Easy Slurpees You Can Make at Home

Slurpees are possibly the most consumed frozen drink in the world, with over 14 million cups consumed each month. But do you know the beverage was created accidentally in 1965? One Dairy Queen’s soda machine broke down, so the owner stored their soda in a freezer. The mixture of water, flavoring, and sugar was so well liked by the public that the owner made the decision to build a machine especially for this purpose. Slurpees are named after the “slurping” sound people make when they sip them with a straw. When the drink was originally introduced in stores, there were only two flavors available: cherry and coke.

The only drawback of frozen beverages, apart from the brain freeze, is that you have to be close to a place where they are sold. Fortunately, all it takes is a few basic ingredients and a few easy recipes to make this easy drink at home. Here are some excellent, tried-and-true recipes below.

Kool-Aid Slurpee

To make Kool Aid slurpees at home, all you need is:

  • Club Soda
  • Sugar
  • Kool-Aid powder
  • Ice

Pour Kool-Aid powder, club soda, and sugar into a blender. Add ice and blend until the ice is fully mixed in with the Kool-Aid. Now, your slurpee is ready, and you didn’t have to leave your house. It’s that simple. You can change Kool-Aid flavors according to your taste.

The Healthy Version

You can enjoy this frozen beverage and have it be good for you too. To make this healthy drink, you’ll need:

  • 2 cups of any fruit (mango, watermelon, peaches, or banana, whatever you prefer)
  • Half a cup of ice
  • 1/4 cup of lemonade
  • 1/4 cup of water

Make sure your fruit is peeled and sliced into small enough pieces for your blender to break up. The amount depends on whether you choose to use fresh or frozen fruit. Add lemonade, water, and ice to the blender. Blend all the ingredients in a blender until the desired consistency is reached. After you’re done blending, enjoy your healthy treat right away to avoid the ice melting and losing its consistency.

The Coke Varety

This is super famous and easy to make. All you’ll need is

  • 2 cans of Coke
  • Empty ice cube trays

Put one regular Coke into empty ice cube trays and freeze. Place the coke cubes in the freezer for at least four hours so the beverage reaches the freezing point. Make sure the cubes are completely frozen before using them. Then, in a blender, combine another can of Coke, the frozen Coca-Cola ice cubes, and regular ice cubes as needed. Blend until it turns into the desired consistency, then transfer to a serving glass for an instant slurpee. Use a spoon or straw to enjoy it immediately while frozen. Also, try a variation of this tasty treat by using Dr. Pepper instead.

Cherry Lime Slurpee

Now that cherries are in season, there is an endless supply at your local grocery store. Pro tip: buy extra bags of cherries when they are in-season and are affordable, and store them in the freezer for future use in this cherry-lime slurpee. You’ll need:

  • 2 cups of freshly squeezed lime juice
  • one cup of water
  • Three cups of frozen cherries
  • One cup of granulated sugar
  • One cup of ice

First, blend the sugar, water, and lime juice for 15 seconds or until the sugar is dissolved. Blend in the cherries and ice next. Transfer your tasty beverage into a glass and enjoy.
