Secret Level has released a new trailer, and Mega Man is at the forefront of this gaming spectacle. The famous platform shooter is making his debut amongst other icons in the Amazon Prime original. Secret Level will dive into the depths of video games, with a new story for each episode. Our favorite blue platformer is getting an entire episode to himself. Fans can look forward to Secret Level’s release later this year, December 10th.
Mega Man’s History
On December 17th, 1987, Mega Man was introduced in the eponymous title, Mega Man. Created by Keiji Inafune, he was originally Rock, a robot assistant and ‘son’ to the brilliant Doctor Light. Rock willingly chose to become Mega Man, the peacekeeping robot. Why? To defeat Light’s former friend and rival, the evil Doctor Wily. Even after beating Wily, Mega Man’s mission of peace is never done. Wily always springs up with new contraptions to challenge the robot. Almost all classic-era Mega Man games feature this same song and dance.
The character’s first foray into gaming netted him plenty of approval. However, it was 1988’s Mega Man 2 that made the character into such a big hit. Mega Man 2 helped jumpstart the franchise for the character. It was followed up with Mega Man 3 and numerous more sequels. The X, Zero, and Battle Network series all owe their success to Mega Man’s franchise. Overall, Rock’s legacy carves a deep niche in Capcom’s plans. He may not be as well remembered as he was in the past. However, the character is still fresh and waiting for new content.
Secret Level, and a possible resurgence?
Secret Level features a few clips from the Mega Man episode. This includes an explosion scene where Rock is thrown back. The most fascinating scene is Mega Man’s suit-up scene, where he puts on his armor. This is different than how the games teleported it to him. The scene also shows us a redesigned version of his battle helmet. The blue bomber‘s surprising addition has many fans looking forward to what his episode has. Interestingly, this episode could also help color in Rock’s origins. It can provide a darker interpretation of the character’s backstory.
The blue bomber is still remembered, but Secret Level could boost his popularity. Fans of the blue bomber have been craving new content since 2018’s Mega Man 11. This could be an opportunity to bring the platform shooter to the animated screens. He’s previously held two TV Series, penned under Ruby-Spears and Man of Action. A new series gives the character another chance to win the audience over. After all, third Life Up‘s the charm, and Rock has plenty of retries. More attention can also work for many characters featured throughout the series. Overall, Secret Level can bring more attention to the classic gaming icon.
Rock’s Next Big Debut
Secret Level has a lot to offer for fans of video games. The title features an impressive roster of well-received games. Warhammer 40,000, Pac-Man, God of War, and Dungeons & Dragons are all featured stories. Each new episode is a short film that shows a different animation style. This makes the episodes all feel unique and separated. No set continuity exists between the stories. No stories connect, so you have no reason to worry about being locked out.
Secret Level is Rock’s next big debut, and fans cannot wait. The franchise presents a unique opportunity to tell a gritty Mega Man reboot. Rock gets another chance to impress the audience with his skills. Old fans can rejoice, for the blue bomber is here to save the day. New fans can learn something from one of Capcom’s most well-received franchises. If you fall into either one of these categories, check out Secret Level when it releases.
