It all started on October 5th, 2005. The first released book by Stephenie Meyer later became known as “The Twilight Saga” to generations of all kinds, mostly targeting Millennials and Gen Z. The first book of the saga became a live adaptation in November 2008.
The movie became a 2000s’ hit and is still known as one to this day by those who remember the saga. With each passing succession of books and films being released, came the history of everything behind it. The Twilight films brought Stephenie joy, especially since they took over the spotlight while she was getting overwhelmed.
Twilight: The First Movie That Created History
Stephenie Meyer had originally gotten the idea to write the series from a dream she had. A dream where a human and a vampire were in love yet couldn’t be together.
It’s said that she got inspired to write about her dream and the first draft of the first book became Chapter 13. While unsure if that’s true, Mark Shapiro wrote an unofficial biography about Stephenie Meyer. If you happen to be looking for little things about her and why she wrote the series, that’s your best place to look.
The movie adaptation of the first film ‘Twilight’ has a different story. When Stephenie first started the book series, she had a playlist full of songs by MCR, My Chemical Romance, a band with songs that inspired her. If you happen to be a big fan of the movie, you know where this is headed. Stephenie was been so influenced by their songs that she asked My Chemical Romance if they would be been willing to create a soundtrack for the movie. News flash for those impatient readers who don’t know what happened, they said no.
My Chemical Romance had rejected the idea because they saw it as corporations trying to increase their finances. The band also saw it as weird since it was a teenage girl in love with a man years older than her. And just to add salt to the wound, My Chemical Romance ended up writing a song to make fun of Twilight. The song became known as “Vampire Money,” trying to reference all the money being spent on this vampire movie.
Even with that heartbreaking rejection, the movie was able to still bloom and became a hit. It slowly became the Twilight Saga that we all know now.
New Moon
The beginning of sides. Which team are you on: Team Edward or Team Jacob? I’m on Team Carlisle. For those of you wondering, yes, he was always the (hot) option. The idea of which team you played on came from the leading factor that Edward left Bella (how tragic) and Bella ended up turning to Jacob for comfort.
Choosing a team is a big theme with the arrival of this movie and for the whole Twilight series in general. If you ever come across a fan, they will ask you which team you are on. Just make sure you choose a good (obvious) choice (Carlisle), and make sure you’re ready to fight for your answer.
With the introduction to most of the Cullen family in the first movie, Alice Cullen who is played by Ashley Greene, is someone who Stephenie saw best first to play the role. Stephenie Meyer even said herself that Ashley Greene was exactly who she imagined Alice Cullen to be in real life. That’s crazy, right? You don’t get to see an author so happy about their books becoming movies because of poor adaptations, let alone an actor perfectly matching the image of the character. A rare sight, but then again, fate works in mysterious ways.
Eclipse
With the filming of Eclipse, it was said that some of the actors were envious of the actors who got to play the wolves. This is because they were able to get nice physiques and the others couldn’t because of their roles. Not only that but the movie was supposed to have more action than the other movies in the saga.
Eclipse seems to be more of a filler for the fantasy world of Twilight. But even with the little significance in the movie itself, without all the details in the 3rd film, there would be many pieces of information missing. A lot of the stuff in the last two films wouldn’t make sense without it. Fillers might seem boring, but they hold the story together. Think about it. The ending of Eclipse was the perfect roll-over to continue the story for Breaking Dawn, wasn’t it?
Breaking Dawn Part 1
Breaking Dawn Part 1 is one of the most remembered of the movie saga. It is also the title of the last book in the series. That is because of Bella getting married, having her daughter, Renesmee, and becoming a vampire because of her harmful and deadly pregnancy. This movie was and will continue to be the most life-changing.
During the filming of the wedding scene, there were many fans and news reports trying to take a sneak peek at the wedding dress that Bella wore for her wedding. The cast and crew even had Kristan, Bella’s actor, stay away in a room until she had to film just to keep the whole dress under wraps. With a lot of hard work, they were able to pull it off flawlessly. And who would want a dress like that to be ruined by getting spoiled? The answer is no one.
Something that also became a historical moment in this movie is the house that Bella and Edward stayed in for their honeymoon. The house is located in Brazil, and you can visit it. This used to be the same with the Cullen house but the previous owners who allowed visitors moved. The new family in the house ended up barricading the entrance so fans couldn’t get in. It’s best to leave that house alone.
They also released behind-the-scenes footage of how they filmed the vampire running scenes. Just the factor attached to a harness and a fast-moving vehicle. If you haven’t seen the video, you should. It’s such a cool thing to see (and super funny).
Breaking Dawn Part 2
This is the last and final movie to be filmed for the Twilight Saga. The final goodbye to a movie series that many people loved.
The second part of Breaking Dawn is heavily focused on Bella and her refusal to let anything happen to her family, especially when the Volturi had planned to try and kill Renesmee because she was deemed dangerous. The whole last movie is mainly focused on the war that happens between the Cullens and Volturi it couldn’t fit in part one of Breaking Dawn. It’s still significant to the whole movie franchise because it shows off Bella’s stronger personality while trying to keep her family safe.
In the end, the Volturi realized that Renesmee never actually posed as a dangerous threat (only because a lot of their side died and another spoiler that can’t be spilled because it’s the whole point of parts one and two). And just like that, the rest is history. And that is the end of the Twilight Saga.
Final
With the Twilight movies and books becoming one of the most memorable and best-selling by Stephenie Meyer, the chances of them being remembered and appreciated now by newer generations are slim. That is why it’s up to you to be able to pass down things that hold significance like Twilight.
The movies and books might be laughed at now as they get older because of the cheesiness, but who cares? Getting to have something like this released in the peak of the 2000s so far shouldn’t be forgotten. It’s a strong history that can’t be forgotten.
Now, the very important question: What’s the next step to take?
