Young Sheldon, a spin-off prequel to The Big Bang Theory, is coming to an end after 7 seasons. The final season follows the Coopers as they welcome Mandy, their new in-law, deal with a raid’s aftermath at Meemaw’s gambling room and experience loss. Steve Holland, the co-executive producer, said that it’s the right time to end the show at season 7 because fans are mostly aware of what happens next. From the death of George Cooper Sr. to getting accepted into Cal Tech at age 14, he wanted to do the show justice. Let’s see what awaits us in the season finale.
The Death of George Cooper Sr. in Young Sheldon

In the episode aired on May 9th, George Cooper Sr. died of a heart attack in Young Sheldon. The producers didn’t make the funeral in the same episode to give the audience time to mourn his loss. The season finale on May 16th, will be divided into two parts, the first part being “Funeral” and the second, “Memoir,” both of which are written by Lorre, Molaro, and Holland.
The Surprise Return of Jim Parsons in Young Sheldon
Additionally, there’s a surprise flash-forward in “Memoir,” which shows the return of Jim Parsons as Sheldon alongside Mayim Bialik as Amy Farrah Fowler with their two children. It turns out that Sheldon’s voice-overs throughout the series were part of a memoir he’s writing in the present day. In an interview with People, Parsons said “The way that they wrote it in was, I thought, so beautiful that it ended up being like this little extra coda or whatever to my experience with the character.”
Is it Really the End?
Actually, no. The producers are planning another prequel spin-off following Sheldon’s older brother Georgie (Montana Jordan), his wife (Emily Osment), and their daughter CeeCee as they “navigate the challenges of adulthood, parenting, and marriage while raising their young family in Texas.” You can also expect to find characters from Young Sheldon in there as apart from George Cooper Sr., everyone’s still alive and can make an appearance.
