Travis Kelce agreed to be part of the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend event along with fellow Kansas Chiefs player Patrick Mahomes. What Kelce may not have realized was that he was actually about to sit through a mini-roast. Unlike Tom Brady, he seemed to understand the rules of a roast and took the jokes on the chin. However, the jokes were controversial at best and put Kelce in an uncomfortable hot seat.
Taylor Swift’s beau seemingly understands that sometimes saying nothing at all is sometimes better. However, Travis Kelce’s lack of response will likely upset some people. Including, maybe, Taylor Swift.
Will Travis Kelce Make His Lady An “Honest Woman?”
Jason Sudeikis began the mini-roast by lobbing a hot potato at the Kansas City tight end. Sudeikis asked Kelce in this video, “Hey Travis, real talk, OK, just the guys here. When are you going to make an honest woman out of her?” The actor was, of course, referencing Taylor Swift.
According to the Cambridge dictionary, making an “honest woman” out of someone refers to marrying a woman a man is having a sexual relationship with. We are firmly in the 1800s with that joke, folks. Should Taylor Swift Stop Working?
Sudeikis was really on point during the charity event on Saturday. He follows up on that uncomfortable question with some equally problematic statements. First, the ‘Ted Lasso’ actor said that Taylor doesn’t need to be working anymore. In a KO move, he alludes to the idea that one of Travis Kelce’s teammates would agree with him.
Is Kelce Heading to the Dog House?
Taylor Swift’s man responds to the initial question by smiling and rubbing his beard. As Jason Sudeikis continued on, he threw his head back and laughed uncomfortably. Finally, he said, “Guys, you’re really pushing it.”
Did Travis Kelce respond incorrectly? Not really. Sometimes it’s not what you don’t say versus what you did. No one was expecting the tight end to be a champion for women’s rights during a mini-roast, but a little something in retort would have been nice.
That being said, it is a comedic event. How much creative license a comedian has to make during an event is up for debate, but most people would consider this fairly light in comparison to what some people will say in the name of humor. For better forms of humor, find them here. Don’t take it too seriously, folks. No one firmly planted in the 21st century would suggest that Swift would hang up her singing cleats if she gets married.
Taylor Swift was not at the event, and she has not yet responded to the videos. Travis Kelce has also not followed up with any thoughts on the event. Is Kelce going to get a permanent spot on the couch? Is he in the garage or a dog house for a few weeks? Will Swift write an album about this? Only time will tell.
