Top TV Shows You Cant Miss This Fall

We have entered the perfect season to make a TV show of our whole personality. The weather chills and the nights lengthen, but we are still far off from the cheeriness of the winter holidays. As we all feel colder and lazier, it’s time to cozy up at home in a nest of blankets and throw pillows. Outdoor activities are finished, and productivity has plummeted. We should dim the lights and adopt a new TV series this fall.

A TV Show for Everybody

The stores already brought out the orange and black paraphernalia—and white-but-pumpkin-shaped tchotchkes—for the subtle decorators among us. Fall advertising emerges according to plan, in all its pumpkin spice glory. But maybe you can branch out a little from your usual autumn marathons.

Here are some new stories to accompany you as you refuse to leave your homemade harvest wonderland this spooky season. Feel free to intersperse these TV show options with your traditional viewings of Gilmore Girls or The X-Files (or the 90s version of Sabrina the Teenage Witch).

The Penguin

Weekly episodes on HBO/MAX, the series premiered on September 19.

Immediately on the heels of the events from 2022’s The Batman, this TV show highlights the most astonishing transformation you will witness. Prosthetics and a deft acting performance combine to make Colin Farrell completely unrecognizable as the titular Penguin. Wallow in the shock of this metamorphosis as Farrell leads you through the criminal underbelly of a dark and grimy Gotham, styled appropriately for the season.

Agatha All Along

Weekly episodes on Disney+, the series premiered on September 18.

Starring Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza, Agatha All Along might be your new autumnal TV show if you would rather have something witchy in time for Halloween. The sinister undercurrent of hundreds-year-old witch Agatha Harkness unwinds through the series, but the show embraces silliness on the surface. Are you nostalgic for the early days of the Disney+ Marvel programming before fatigue set in? Remember when WandaVision was an exciting novelty? If executed well, Agatha All Along could recapture some of that magic.

Only Murders in the Building

Weekly episodes on Hulu, season 4 premiered on August 27.

This fall, Only Murders in the Building will satiate your appetite for a true crime TV show while leaving you lighthearted. The intrepid podcaster-investigators, played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, return to our screens for a fourth season. And with the finale set for late October, you have enough time to binge before a spooky Halloween sendoff. It’s bound to be a good use of your autumn nights. Only Murders in the Building has become an Emmy Award staple, and the show has attracted a sparkling guest cast too vast to list here.

Dune: Prophecy

Weekly episodes of HBO/MAX, season premiere expected in November

If you’d rather move past fall and Halloween, departing from real-life analogs, let’s pivot to the most science-fiction TV show we can find. Dune: Prophecy revolves around the elusive and powerful Bene Gesserit Sisterhood of the Dune universe. This TV show marks an unprecedented on-screen opportunity for the franchise to depict the inner workings of these so-called witches. Let the space politics and intrigue unfold while you sip a pumpkin spice latte.

Final Thoughts

This fall, luxuriate in the comfort of your home with a good TV show. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to go outside in six months. Get your pumpkin spice and apple cider, because it’s television time! Don’t forget a fuzzy blanket and seasonally appropriate throw pillows.
