What We Know About The Office Reboot, May 20, 2024

For The Office fans, there is a reboot coming out soon on NBC’s streaming service, Peacock! That’s right, you read correctly. Over ten years later, this is one reboot that has been long-awaited by fans across the globe. Fans have only grown more and more as the show streamed on Netflix for a time and gained more and more popularity from other sources. In fact, The Office was the most streamed show according to statistics. This is one show that has continued to gain a higher following than when it first aired.

As a huge fan of The Office, I am somewhat skeptical about a mockumentary reboot, but the writer is Greg Daniels, who wrote the original The Office, so I have faith that the writing won’t suck. So often, we expect the sequel or reboot to be almost the same as the old when the new has to be its own story. So, without further ado, here are the facts from a reboot of The Office.

The Office Reboot: The New Series

As stated before, we know for certain that the reboot will be airing on Peacock. When will the reboot air? Not sure yet. But you can be sure that it will be on Peacock. This second mockumentary will take place in the same universe as The Office with the same crew that brought us Dunder Mifflin. The mockumentary crew is in search of new material when they happen upon a struggling publisher trying to get volunteer reporters for a dying newspaper company. This all takes place in the historic Midwest. Production is in the works for July 2024.

While many have speculated who might be in the new mockumentary, there may or may not be some familiar faces popping up in this new spinoff series. But what we do know is that there will be a whole new cast and setting. Only two names have been leaked that will be in the new series. Sabrina Impacciatore, who starred in The White Lotus, and Domhnall Gleeson, who was a part of the Star Wars franchise.

Greg Daniels may have done it again, but we won’t know until we give this one a shot. And we need to give this new series a chance and not look through the lens of Dunder Mifflin, as hard as that may be. It will be impossible to eliminate all comparisons to Dunder Mifflin and Michael Scott, and there are bound to be countless more questions that you have, no doubt. We will have to be content for the time being that this is all we know for now. As was pointed out in another article: “What can be more hilarious than journalists chasing readers?”

The Office: A Look Back at Origins

When The Office first started, it was a British television show on a British network. First airing in 2001 in Britain and 2003 in America, The Office British version starred Ricky Gervais as David Brent, the equivalent to Michael Scott in the American version. The British version aired from July 9, 2001 -December 27, 2003. Instead of Dunder Mifflin, you had Wernham Hogg in the Trading Estate in Berkshire, England. Instead of Jim Halpert and Pam Beasley, you had British actor Martin Freeman acting as Tim Canterbury and British actress Lucy Davis playing Dawn Tinsley. Phew, that was a lot of names!

Of course, who can forget Dwight Shrute? The quirky Dwight whom Jim loved to annoy was played by American actor Rainn Wilson, who also wrote an autobiography called Bassoon King, which also had a counterpart in the British version. His counterpart was Gareth Kenan, who acted very similarly to Dwight. Dwight takes much pride in being his assistant to the regional manager, which Dwight often “forgets” and changes to “assistant regional manager.” However, both wind up as the successor in the end.

There were also some subtle differences in what the company sold. Both of them were a paper company, but Dunder Mifflin sold paper as well as office supplies. Wernham Hogg sold only paper. Their slogan at Wernham Hogg? “Where Life is Stationary.” How punny. Dunder Mifflin’s slogan, on the other hand, is “Limitless Paper in a Paperless World.”

The Office: What Are They Up to Now?

There have been other exciting opportunities for the original American cast to be reunited in television. The characters Dwight and Pam (Jenna Fischer) as well as others who were easily recognizable were reunited in an ad skit about a pillow company. The advertisement is a hilarious short skit that brings back the nostalgia of The Office and Greg Daniel’s humor. I know as a huge fan of The Office this skit brought me so much joy.

It’s a world that you immerse yourself in, and these characters become close friends. When you see these characters reunited later on in something else, like an ad skit, you notice the differences in the characters, like how grey their hair is. A lot of them have popped up here and there, and where you find one Office member, you’ll find another. Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beasley, the receptionist, and Angela Kinsey, played accountant Angela Martin, are actually best friends in real life and have a podcast together called The Office Ladies.

Krasinski has been particularly busy. Krasinski directed his third movie, If, which came out in theaters this past weekend on May 17. The other two he’s directed are A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place II. IF is a movie about imaginary friends (I.F.) starring Ryan Reynolds as well as Steve Carrell. Krasinski has gone on to write and direct several other little projects such as co-writing and co-producing with Matt Damon a screenplay called Promised Land. Krasinski has also founded a production called Sunday Night Production.
