The MTV Movie and TV Awards 2024 cancellation is no surprise. The last few years have done the MTV Movie and TV Awards an injustice since, in 2020, there was the COVID-19 pandemic. So, they had to resort to airing MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time, which featured highlights from past ceremonies. Then, in 2023, they ended up moving to a pre-recorded virtual ceremony without a host, as the set host, Drew Barrymore, dropped out when the Writers Guild of America (WGA ) went on strike five days before the show.

MTV hasn’t stated a frank reason as to why the MTV Movie and TV Awards 2024 is canceled. Maybe the WGA strike caused a deficiency in content as the strike has severely delayed many shoots for different movies and TV shows. It also could be the fact that last year’s show was a bit choppy since they had to ditch live audiences when Drew Barrymore dropped out. Or it could be a combination of those reasons, or there could be other ones. Everything is possible, and no one knows except the network’s parent company, Paramount.
Are They Going To Make A Habit Out Of Cancellation?
With the MTV Movie and TV Awards canceled in 2020, the 2023 EMAs due to the Gaza-Israel conflict, and now the MTV Movie and TV Awards 2024… are they gonna make a habit out of canceling their shows? The answer is no. MTV stated that they’re set to come back with a new re-imagined format, maybe to compensate for their shortcomings in the past few years
It is worth mentioning that the 2023 EMAs was the first cancellation for them in 3 decades. Many suffered because of the Gaza-Israel conflict, and it was the right move to cancel the show in solidarity with those suffering from this tragic event that is still ongoing.
MTV Movie And TV Awards 2024 Cancellation: Afterthought
The MTV Movie and TV Awards 2024 being canceled is a bummer. It would be nice to get back the original feels of the awards show with the crowd, the hosts, and the vibes we used to have. I am hoping that their “new reimagined format” doesn’t turn it into a pre-recorded version as it was in 2023. I also hope that we don’t have to face pandemics and conflicts as the world deserves peace and everyone deserves to enjoy themselves.
