Hololive Vtubers x Los Angeles Dodgers Huge Collaboration Take Center Stage July 5th

This crossover between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Hololive will have merch on T-shirts and Hats (currently work in progress) and a performance by Gawr Gura singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

Over the weekend, Cover Corporation, the producer of the massive talent agency, announced their collaboration event with the MLB during a professional baseball game in Los Angeles. They call it “hololive night” that is scheduled on July 5th live at Dodger Stadium and coincidently, aligns with major MLB star/current Dodger Shohei Ohtani’s birthday.

Is this event going to be the start of a trend with professional sports and anime-style content crossing over at a massive scale?

Hololive x Dodgers Collab Scheduled July 5th

For more information on what a Vtuber/ streamer is, I wrote a detailed article talking about the process of becoming one and the tech needed to start in this niche that has a recent but rich background.

But at this point, Hololive is globally recognized as the top Vtuber agency. It has talents worldwide — from Japan to Indonesia, to the United States and Canada. Although there are some scattered as streamers in Europe and Australia, it is mostly concentrated in North America and where it originated in Asia.

On their YouTube channel, they posted a stream with two of the Vtubers involved talking about the MLB collab, including Hololive English‘s Gawr Gura and Hololive Japan‘s Usada Pekora.

Gura is the most popular Vtuber ever in terms of subscribers, with 4.46 million currently on YouTube. Pekora is one of the most-watched consistent female streamers in general, with 35.7 million hours watched this past year alone, according to Stream Hatchet.

Hoshimachi Suisei, who wasn’t on this stream, is one of the more popular streamers with her music and fits with the brand representation for blue Vtubers, as the color doesn’t seem like a coincidence with the team and the other female streamers funny enough.

When I think of Vtuber songs, albums, and music in general, Suisei shines above the rest. She has a huge catalog of quality music she’s put out over the years. It makes sense why she was chosen to represent Hololive for this event collaboration, despite her not thinking so in her recent stream.

Hololive x Dodgers Event Is Similar To Another Event

The one thing I can compare this new partnership event is what the Los Angeles Rams did for a game last season, collaborating with the massive anime One Piece.

On Sunday, December 3rd, the Rams had a one-day event in SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, as it had similar perks like limited-edition collaboration apparel and is incentivizing more people of perhaps different interests to go to the games, despite not being fans potentially.

The photo spot with the talent’s life-size cut-outs, a night drone show, limited edition merch with the shirt and hat, and the ticket package coming with collectible cards are other exclusives that come with this collab for that game only. Even a drone show at the end and a live performance of Gura singing is a nice touch to an event that will likely garner tons of interest across the anime and Vtuber community.

Pro Sports And Anime Content Might Have Potential

Tickets for this game are out now on the MLB website, as it was announced on May 31st but the merch design reveal hasn’t been announced as of yet.

As a fan of the NFL and anime/ Vtubers, I would love to go locally to a game set up like this and see how they arrange everything within the stadium, plus the event bonuses you would get with exclusive goods only sold or given out at the game are a great addition.

This could gain more people in the fandom, as that is usually how these things go once you’re introduced to something you aren’t familiar with that is involved with something you like.

It may even bring fans over to the United States for the first time from Japan just to experience something more than just a normal night game with the Dodgers against the Milwaukee Brewers.
