Noel Hawley Announced Alien’s TV Show Has Finished Filming

Ridley Scott’s film Alien revolutionized the sci-fi horror genre when it was released back in 1979. Originally, the story follows a small crew who fight for survival when they become trapped in space with iconic, sadistic, and predatory creatures.

From there, the simple yet horrifying story would lead to various sequels, spin-offs, comic books, and video games. While each work would reach certain levels of success, it can be argued that none reached the heights of the original film. Despite the decades passing since the original film, directors are still trying to recreate the scares that made the first horror film legendary in the first place.

The Alien’s Debut on Television

If you’re a fan of the sci-fi/horror franchise, then you should be excited as the callous xenomorph makes its return to screens everywhere. Although Fede Alvarez’s horror film, Alien: Romulus, hits theaters next month, fans should look forward to a new Alien television show. With that said, neither the film nor the show share a connection, meaning that they tell separate stories. Conversely, the film is set up in a way to boost excitement for the show, especially if it’s successful.

Following Disney’s acquisition of Fox in 2019, plans for another Alien movie came about. Eventually, those plans would change as they decided to bring the xenomorphs to your home screens instead. With the help of Noah Hawley, who was the showrunner for Fargo, the show would become a reality. What’s more? According to Hawley, the show just finished production and is set to release sometime in 2025 on FX and Hulu.

Why FX Invested in Alien: Earth

For more good news, the TV show also has an official name, ‘Alien: Earth.’ Following a Variety interview with FX boss John Landgraf, he confirmed the film’s title as well as his excitement for the show. In fact, Landgraf would confess that they wanted Hawley to focus on writing two seasons before he went back to finishing the sixth season of Fargo.

Considering the great year FX is having, it’s not surprising how invested they are in the new show. You see, FX has completely dominated the Emmys with a total of 93 nominations for their shows, Fargo, The Bear, Shogun, and other TV shows. If the show does well, then it’ll continue FX’s streak of successful shows and gather even more awards.

The Plot and Theme of Alien: Earth

Ultimately, Alien: Earth will be a prequel to the 1979 film Alien, which originally starred Sigourney Weaver. In the original horror trilogy, the plot centered around characters trying to keep the xenomorphs from reaching the blue planet. However, Alien: Earth sets itself apart from the trilogy films by bringing the thrills to Earth, which takes the franchise in a new direction, as audiences will now get to see how regular citizens deal with these interstellar monsters.

To be precise, the TV show takes place 30 years prior to Ridley Scott’s 1979 film and will focus on the Weyland-Yutani Corporation’s origins and how they brought androids to life. For those unfamiliar with the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, they are a corrupt business that dwells in space colonization. Moreover, the corporation is known for their shady morals, as they’re okay with sacrificing any humanity they have to ensure their research.

Overall, the story follows Wendy, played by Sydney Chandler, who is a meta-human, or more specifically, an adult woman with a child’s brain. By following her story and including sci-fi elements, the show asks its audience, what exactly makes us human?
