Charlie Cox Teases ‘Daredevil’ Cameos For Marvel Show

Daredevil, Marvel

In what may be a ringing endorsement of the series, Disney will allow some of its stacked MCU roster to join the Daredevil universe in the new Marvel show, soon to air on Disney+. Star Charlie Cox let slip some thrilling details about possible cameos in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again. After years of a seemingly interminable wait, the new series fast approaches its 2025 release. All systems go – full steam ahead. Fans can be fairly confident in letting their excitement build at last. The self-martyred street-level hero Matt Murdock, and his familiar crew of friends and foes, have finally been blessed by the powers that be at Disney.

Same Tone, New Faces

Actor Charlie Cox and the main cast of Daredevil: Born Again joined Rotten Tomatoes to dish out particulars about their long-awaited new series. The show is a continuation of the original three-season Netflix masterpiece Daredevil, which concluded in 2018.

When speaking of similarities and differences between the revival and the original, the cast was quick to reassure that they have kept the gritty tone of the Netflix release. “[We’re trying to] tread a very careful line between playing the hits, getting the ingredients that we had that made the show work previously, but also not alienating a new audience so that you don’t have to remember everything that happened,” Cox told Rotten Tomatoes.

He went on to tease the possibility of some cameos from other MCU properties, an excellent way to entice both brand-new viewers and fans of the sweeping MCU. Cox was shy to confirm names and details during the interview, but Ms. Marvel’s Yusuf Khan is already slated to make such an appearance. More characters will follow to cement Daredevil: Born Again’s connections to the extensive superhero world.

Old Favorite is New Blood for the MCU

But “treading a very careful line” means it’s not all about the broader associations to the universe. At a time of prolonged Disney+ MCU oversaturation, bringing back this adored property could signify a shift toward a brighter future for the comics franchise. Daredevil was the shining jewel of Netflix’s Marvel shows, and many fans grieved once it became clear that no more episodes would be forthcoming. The announcement of the new show was met with fragile hope. After all, Marvel followers are not strangers to production issues and delays liable to destroy big comebacks.

In this climate, Disney is smart to capitalize on the goodwill of the original series by retaining the same ensemble. The news was met with enthusiasm when it was confirmed that several previous cast members would be shepherded back to Hell’s Kitchen. Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin have already returned for different MCU properties – She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Echo respectively. Jon Bernthal’s lauded antihero Frank Castle will have a homecoming as well. Alongside them, Daredevil costars Deborah Ann Woll (playing Karen Page) and Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) will round out the cast in the upcoming nine-episode revival.  All the previous fan favorites will assemble onscreen again.

Final Thoughts

While Daredevil: Born Again is expected and encouraged to break new ground at Disney+, the show is wise in choosing against wholesale abandonment of the original series’ context and style. “Where our characters are coming from, where we are, and where we’re going, some of those threads lead back,” D’Onofrio said to Entertainment Weekly. The previously established character relationships can serve as a dependable foundation for constructing a dynamic new story. Hopefully, these elements will combine the best of nostalgia and exhilaration to birth a solid success for Disney+ and the MCU.
