Cartoon Network’s Kyle Carrozza Arrested For Child-Related Crime

On June 20th, in Burbank, California, cartoonist Kyle Carrozza was arrested during an investigation conducted by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Carrozza is known for his 2015 Cartoon Network cartoon, Mighty Magisword, and has greatly impacted animated multimedia design. Authorities discovered the passionate animation geek had two reports of acquiring child pornography. What’s more shocking is no one knew about Carrozza’s arrest until a Twitter (now X) post on July 14th informed the public.

Who Is Kyle Carrozza?

Kyle Carrozza is a multimedia art director, character designer, storyboard artist, and illustrator. His signature art style is inspired by 1960s anime and 1930s rubber hose animation. In 2005, he entered the animation industry with Nickelodeon’s Random Cartoons segment with his first televised short, Moobeard the Cow Pirate. Carrozza continued to work alongside the studio as a storyboard artist for Eric Robles’ Fanboy and Chum Chum in 2008.

Soon, Carrozza’s talents were recruited for Cartoon Network’s Channel Frederator webtoon series, Bravest Warriors by Adventure Time’s creator Pendleton Ward. Then in 2014, he developed his cartoon series, Mighty Magiswords, a tale about two siblings collecting magiswords for their “Warrior For Hire” business. The show began as 50 shorts that aired on Cartoon Network’s CN Anything App, then was greenlit by previous CCO Rob Sorcher for two seasons till 2018. He continued to storyboard for Animaniacs (2018) and The Snoopy Show.

The Carrozza Arrest Report

At 7:30 AM, Kyle Carrozza was arrested at his Burbank apartment on June 20th. According to the arrest report from Cartoon Brew, ICAC performed a warranted search, discovering he possessed child pornography, charging him under California penal code 311.1A. The animator then received a second offense for 311.1C, which stands for the suspect possessing photos and videos of children being abused. If Carrozza is found guilty in a later trial, he can be sentenced to one year in county jail or 5 years in a statewide prison and must register himself as a sex offender.

No one would hear about Carrozza’s arrest until July 13th. Cartoonist Nico Colaleo along with his colleagues learned about Carrozza’s crime. While Colaleo admitted he stayed away from the odd man for 15 years, he couldn’t believe he stooped low to commit such an act. He made and posted the report publicly on his Twitter (now X) to inform about his whereabouts.

It is unknown if Cartoon Network chose to hide Kyle Carrozza’s arrest a month before. However, Carozza’s Instagram shows he worked on three storyboards for Nickelodeon’s Fairly Oddparents: A New Wish while living in Burbank. Fans noticed the show’s last episode aired on June 16th. Carrozza’s arrest could be one of the reasons why FOP: A New Wish went on a short hiatus for ICAC to investigate the apartment 4 days later.

The episodes he storyboarded for are Trial and Hair-or, Teacher’s Pal, and the last aired episode Peace of Pizza. The newest episodes Lost and Founder’s Day, 1 & 2  are set to air on July 22nd. For now, it is unsure if Carozza storyboarded the episodes. As for his animation partner and wife, Lindsay Marie, she has not addressed any comments to the press. Cartoon Network will be removing any content relating to Carozza during this time including the Mighty Magiswords shorts and clips on their YouTube channel.
