Everyone knows of the renowned and beloved movie from Disney and Pixar, Toy Story. It’s the story of a pair of toys determined to return home to their owner. This year marks the 30th anniversary since it first entertained audiences in theaters. So far, there have been special screenings and product collaborations in celebration of this occasion. Funko is joining the party as well by bringing forth a new line of figures. But what will they depict, and when will we see this collection come out?
Recapping the Original Toy Story
Toy Story showcases a world where toys come to life when people are absent. The movie mostly follows Woody, a retro pull-string talking sheriff doll. He lives the high life as Andy’s favorite toy, playing with him all the time. He’s even the beloved and level-headed leader of his kid’s other playthings. Suddenly, his world crumbles when Andy receives a modern action figure as a birthday present. Named Buzz Lightyear, the spaceman charms Woody’s friends and dethrones the cowboy as Andy’s favorite.
The rivalry between the two playthings further intensifies as time passes on. It eventually leads to a confrontation that results in them becoming misplaced far from home. Woody attempts to get them back to Andy’s house, but they’re found by toy-torturing Sid. It also doesn’t help that Buzz has delusions that he’s the character he originates from. Eventually, the two toys resolve their differences and work together to escape from Sid.
A New Celebratory Funko Line Coming
2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the first Toy Story movie. To commemorate this milestone, Disney partnered with various companies to produce special merchandise. Such items include a ColourPop makeup kit, stylish Ray-Ban Kids glasses, and Jessie-themed Adidas shoes. A pop-up book came out last month with more literary works on the way. There are even China-exclusive Hamm and Rex plushies coming to the U.S. And, of course, there will be new toys from Mattel.
Funko, the renowned maker of collective vinyl figures, is also participating in the celebration. It’s releasing a six-figure anniversary collection depicting iconic characters from the Toy Story franchise. A couple of the figurines present Andy and Sid, each holding Buzz and Woody. Another two showcase an alien in a claw and the two protagonists sitting together. The final statuettes feature Woody riding Bullseye and Al McWhiggin in his chicken costume. These Funko figures are available for pre-order now but are coming to stores in July.
Final Thoughts
I’ve been a Toy Story follower ever since I saw the original movie in theaters. I have watched every movie and even some of the animated short films. And I’ll undoubtedly see the fifth film supposedly coming to theaters next year. As for these incoming Funko Pop! figures, they look amazing and oddly adorable. I certainly wouldn’t mind getting one if I come across them in a store. You can do the same next month or pre-order now at the Funko website.
