The success of anime in 2023 left fans with high expectations for 2024. Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, and the single anime movie Suzume garnered attention from new and old anime fans. Due to the enthusiasm of fans, 2024 had a lot to accomplish and it did not disappoint. Winter brought epic shows like Solo Leveling, Blue Exorcist, Seven Deadly Sins, and many others. Based on the announcement of new anime releases and the return of our favorite shows, we’re getting a better year than 2023. Although spring is giving way to summer, here is a recap of anime released this spring and what to expect for Summer.
New Anime Releases Deserve More Spotlight
With the spotlight shining on the Hashiras in Demon Slayer: Hashira training arc, the return of Deku in My Hero Academia, One Piece, Re: Monster, Black Butler: Public School Arc, and many more, people are bound to miss these new releases. Even though popular anime already has a devout fan base and viewership, upcoming shows should not be neglected.
The announcement of new releases from Crunchyroll, and producers like Toho Animation, anime fans should keep an eye out for the next hot thing. The first season of an anime usually, but not always, determines if it’ll be dropped or continued. With the myriad of anime, filtering through to find the good ones can be troublesome. Worry not! After watching an unhealthy amount of anime this spring, here are my top 4 Anime releases that are worth checking out.
Wind Breaker

When Crunchyroll announced the release of Wind Breaker in March 2023, fans of the manga were thrilled. It gained popularity as people had high expectations. It’s safe to say the producer, Cloverworks, did not disappoint. The anime is about hotheaded Haruka, who attends Furin High School, a school known for its bad reputation. He meets the Bofurin members and discovers how contradictory they are to the stories he’s heard. The anime is action-packed, full of well-choreographed fight scenes and gorgeous animation.
Kaiju No. 8

Another anime released that has fans going wild is Kaiju No. 8. After monsters destroyed their home, Mina and Kafka swore to become members of the Defense Corps. Life didn’t go as planned for Kafka and he became a member of the Sweepers Inc. instead. Everything changed when Kafka gained the ability to turn into a monster. Kaiju No. 8 keeps you on the edge for every episode with incredible visuals and fight scenes. It is on Crunchyroll and has 12 episodes.
Bartender: Glass of God
It’s calm, a bit laid back, and a perfect break from all the action anime. Bartender: Glass of God follows Sasakura, an elite bartender at Eden Hall, who always makes the right drink for every moment. The owner of Hotel Cardinal Ryuu tries to convince him to leave his current job to come work for Hotel Cardinal. The producers of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Toho Animations, are in charge of this anime. It premiered in April with incredible animation and the story is also worth checking out.
Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night

The title of this anime is as vague as it gets. The story talks about Mahiru who has exceptional musical talent, and her friends trying to make it in the music world. Jellyfish can’t swim in the night has been tagged as a “cute girls doing cute things” anime for good reason. It is a slice-of-life with a dramatic twist to it. A much-needed break from all the action.
As For Summer….
Summer won’t be left behind. There’s a lineup of mind-blowing recurring and new anime releases coming out June till September. I’m particularly excited about Blue Lock: Episode Nagi scheduled for the 28th of June, Suicide Squad Isekai, Tower of God Season 2 in July and, Oishi No Ko also airing in July.
Conclusion
Although I am excited about recurring shows, I always look forward to the weekend because of these remarkable new anime releases. And because popular shows tend to hoard the spotlight, people ignore these hidden gems. 2024 is bound to be an exciting year for anime fans and I am all for it!
