Andor

If you’ve somehow not heard about Andor by now, it’s time to change that. This gritty Star Wars prequel centers on Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), the reluctant hero we first met in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Set five years before that film, the series charts his transformation from aimless drifter to committed rebel willing to sacrifice everything to bring down the Empire.

What sets Andor apart is its grounded approach—there are no Jedi mind tricks here, just sharp storytelling and a focus on the rebellion’s political and human elements. We see the rise of Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) in a way never explored before, and Dedra Meero (Denise Gough), a terrifying ISB officer, emerges as one of the most chilling new villains in the franchise.

The supporting cast is equally compelling, including standout performances from Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen Rael, Fiona Shaw as Maarva, and Andy Serkis as Kino Loy. With Emmy nods and critical acclaim for its writing and performances, Andor is a slow burn with a powerful payoff. If you’re looking for a Star Wars series that defies expectations, this is it. Rebellions are built on hope, and your next binge-watch should be, without question, Andor.

Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld

This Star Wars series focuses on characters Asajj Ventress (voiced by Nika Futterman) in the first three episodes and Cad Bane (voiced by Corey Burton) in the final three, who work outside the Empire’s control while still intersecting occasionally. So, this is just another Star Wars series, right? Well, yes and no. In Tales of the Underworld, you’re exposed to shorter storylines but ones that are still full of rich character development. They’re villain-centric as we watch the characters find their place in a post-republic world in 15-minute episodes.

Ventress is mostly known for being a former Sith assassin and bounty hunter. Yet, in this series, you follow her as she works with a young Jedi Padawan, who is on the run from the Empire and, along the way, struggles with her past and hope for a new purpose. Bane, a notorious bounty hunter, is the focus of the final three episodes of the series. In these episodes, we learn more about his origins and what led him to become the feared character he is.

Released on Star Wars Day this year, May 4, 2025, the short episode structure allows fans to get deeper character development of these two characters while still creating impactful stories for them both, while bridging the gaps in their complex narratives!

Daredevil: Born Again

In this highly anticipated sequel to Netflix’s Daredevil, we follow Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) as he continues to battle for justice in Hell’s Kitchen; however, at first, that fight is done more in the courtroom and less as a masked vigilante. With the incredible work of Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and the rest of the supporting cast, the darker tone that Daredevil: Born Again has gives fans a refreshing feel they’ve been waiting for.

As Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) works to rebrand himself as the mayor of New York City, Murdock is dealing with the struggles of his dual identity and the unraveling of institutional justice. Other notable appearances in the series include Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher. The reappearance of these original characters satisfies longtime fans while introducing new characters that allow the series to expand into new territories.

Season two is currently in development, making now the perfect time to jump on the bandwagon and immerse yourself in the underworld of Hell’s Kitchen, the layered narratives woven throughout the series, and the thought-provoking ideas surrounding what it means to be a hero in such a complex world.

Throughout the series, you also get a clip of Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), through flashbacks as Ahsoka’s past and their relationship are thought about, as well as Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), whose leadership in the New Republic provides the show with its political context.

Premiering in May 2025, Win or Lose marks Pixar’s first original animated series and has quickly generated buzz for its inventive narrative structure and heartfelt storytelling. Created by Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates, the series follows a co-ed middle school softball team on their journey to the championship game, told through a fresh lens in each episode as the story shifts to a different character’s perspective.

Will Forte lends his voice to Coach Dan, the team’s encouraging and slightly quirky leader. With its emotionally layered storytelling and focus on themes like empathy, insecurity, and personal growth, Win or Lose resonates with viewers of all ages. Unsurprisingly, by March 2025, the show ranked as the second most popular title in the U.S. on Disney+. So what are you waiting for?

Get ready to dive into an alternative timeline with this animated series! In Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Peter Parker, voiced by Hudson Thames, becomes Spider-Man and interacts with various MCU and comic-inspired characters throughout the series, but not in the way you’re used to.

In this series, Spider-Man gets his powers through a temporal paradox involving Doctor Strange battling a symbiotic alien, a far cry from the traditional radioactive spider bite! Through its fresh take on Spider-Man’s origin, rich character development, engaging storytelling, and nostalgic yet modern animation, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is a refreshing addition to the franchise. Including characters such as Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), and Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo).

The twists in this series, allowing fans to dive deeper into more stories surrounding Peter Parker, made it one of Disney+’s most highly anticipated releases. It should absolutely be on your weekly binge-watching list!

From creators Rich Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg, this is a fantastic adaptation of Rick Riordan’s amazing book series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Set in a world where Greek mythology comes to life, it follows a boy, Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell), who discovers he’s none other than a demigod.

The first season uses the first book, The Lightning Thief, to introduce viewers to a world where Greek mythology blends with the modern day. Then, season two will follow the second book, The Sea of Monsters. Finally, season three, which is said to already be in development, will work off of the third book, The Titan’s Curse.

Season one is worth a rewatch while you wait for season two to grace the screens, hopefully in December 2025. Whether you’re a young viewer, a new viewer, or a longtime reader of the books, the charismatic leads and loyalty to the source material make this a show that everyone keeps coming back to!

When it premiered on Disney+ in 2024, this massive nostalgia hit garnered four million views within the first five days. This series continues the 1990s X-Men: The Animated Series, and the X-Men continue to face new threats in a world that fears them. With its high stakes, modern storytelling, character drama, and political themes, this series resonates with new and old fans alike.

This critically acclaimed, nostalgic, yet modern animation allows for a deep exploration of the characters, who are nothing if not complex. Magneto (Matthew Waterson) transforms from adversary to leader. Jean Grey (Jennifer Hale) is a key figure in the team’s emotions and power, and helps the show explore various dynamics in family and motherhood. Morph (JP Karliak), a shapeshifter now reimagined as a nonbinary character, provides the series with levity and emotional complexity.

Nominated and even won multiple accolades, including the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Animated Series, X-Men ’97 takes on themes of prejudice, belonging, and resilience. It remains faithful to the original series while adding a modern charm. If you’ve somehow managed to not partake in the X-Men series or are unsure if it’s your thing, this series might be the perfect way to find out this week!
