Disney+ continues to deliver a powerful blend of nostalgia, action, magic, and heartwarming storytelling, with titles that span across galaxies, timelines, and genres. Whether you’re looking for a superhero saga, a trip down memory lane, or an epic space adventure, this week’s lineup of the top 10 shows on Disney+ has something for every kind of viewer! Let’s dive in!
Top 10 Shows on Disney+ This Week!
The Book of Boba Fett
In a spin-off from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett follows Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) as he takes over the territory on Tatooine that was previously ruled by Jabba the Hutt to build his empire, with his trusted partner Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen).
Starting as a mysterious side character, this show allows fans the chance to learn more about this silent bounty hunter by deeply exploring themes of identity, legacy, and redemption, while watching him evolve into an introspective leader. This series is vital viewing for Star Wars fans, especially with The Mandalorian universe expanding so that fans can keep up with canon and character crossovers! Plus, there are some great guest stars like Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, as well as Jennifer Beals, Stephen Root, and Danny Trejo!
Malcolm in the Middle
Malcolm in the Middle is a nostalgic, quirky, fast-paced sitcom about Malcolm (Frankie Muniz), a child genius, who is trying to navigate life in a hilarious, dysfunctional family. This allows the audience to follow him as he tries to balance school, bullies, his brothers, and his own intelligence.
Additionally, starring the likes of Bryan Cranston as Hal and Jane Kaczmarek as Lois, this fourth-wall-breaking style series and offbeat humor helped to redefine the family sitcom genre and remains unforgettable. If you’ve ever wondered what Bryan Cranston was like before his Breaking Bad days, his role as the chaotic dad is something you can’t miss.
Once Upon A Time
A personal favorite of mine, Once Upon A Time, blends fantasy with drama in an extremely creative retelling of iconic stories focused on fairy tale characters that are trapped in the real world under a powerful curse; a curse that only Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), the daughter of Snow White/Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming/David Nolan (Josh Dallas), can break.
As good as that sounds, wait until you hear about The Evil Queen/Regina Mills’ redemption arc, which is brilliantly played by Lana Parrilla, and the way Robert Carlyle plays Rumpelstiltskin/ Mr. Gold. Throughout the town of Storybrooke, each season dives deeper and deeper into fairy tale mythology and does an excellent job of showing how these characters adapt to a reality where magic once again threatens and tempts them.
WandaVision
After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) creates a sitcom-style reality to cope with her unimaginable grief and, in turn, unintentionally traps a whole town in the process. As the illusion begins to fracture, secrets emerge about what is really happening and the power that Wanda possesses, we get some S.W.O.R.D. interference, and overall, we get to watch as this black-and-white sitcom illusion she’s created unravels and goes from sitcom to an amazing complex psychological thriller.
WandaVision also stars Paul Bettany as Vision, Kathryn Hahn as Agnes, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, expertly exploring grief, identity, and mental health in a way that is not seen in your typical superhero stories. It remains one of the MCU’s most creative ventures and a show that fans truly shouldn’t miss experiencing.
Alias
Alias might not sound like your typical Disney+ TV show, but a series about a double agent working for the CIA while pretending to work for a shadowy organization called SD-6, which also stars Jennifer Garner, sounds too good to miss…and it is. Created by J.J. Abrams, Alias is a series that upped the game for TV action dramas with the introduction of cinematic-quality fight scenes, serialized storytelling, and a very strong female lead to lead the way!
Sydney Bristow, played by Garner, has a complex morality, and Garner’s performance is game-changing. With spy thrillers trending a lot these days, Alias provides viewers with an ahead-of-its-time origin for the genre’s TV resurgence. This, combined with an excellent supporting cast of Victor Garber, Michael Vartan, Ron Rifkin, and Bradley Cooper, if you’ve never watched this show before, it’s absolutely the time to do so!
Lizzie McGuire
One of my favorite shows when I was a teenager, Lizzie McGuire, is a relatable coming-of-age comedy that follows Lizzie’s teenage experiences, with an animated version of herself narrating her inner thoughts. With a great cast comprised of Hilary Duff as Lizzie, Lalaine as her best friend Miranda, Adam Lamberg as her other best friend Gordo, along with Jake Thomas, Hallie Todd, and Robert Carradine, Lizzie McGuire is one of Disney Channel‘s most iconic shows.
Providing fans with a feel-good nostalgia trip, the series captures early 2000s teen angst with humor and heart that makes old fans happy to rediscover the world of Lizzie and new fans excited to dive in for the first time. With the icon that is Lizzie, the meaningful moments between her and Gordo, the way Miranda brings an edge and vital support, and the comic relief brought about by Lizzie’s family, it’s quite a refreshing look at relatable teenage life, especially before social media!
Dr. Oakley – Yukon Vet
This reality series on Disney+, provided by National Geographic, follows Dr. Michelle Oakley, who is the only all-species vet for hundreds of miles in the Yukon, Alaska, as she treats wild and domestic animals. This is an excellent series that celebrates veterinary medicine and wilderness life while expressing themes of compassion and resourcefulness, creating an inspirational aspect.
Through Oakley’s adventures of having to tranquilize bears and helping local farmers with their livestock, Dr. Oakley – Yukon Vet is an educational, heartwarming, and family-friendly gem, making it perfect for fans of nature, animals, or unscripted real-life problem-solving!
Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures
Set in the High Republic era of Star Wars, this animated series follows a group of young Jedi, such as Kai Brightstar (Jamaal Avery Jr.), Lys Solay (Juliet Donenfeld), Nash Durango (Emma Berman), and Nubs (Dee Bradley Baker), as they learn the ways of the Force, helping others, and of course, combating evil.
A great thing about Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures is how it allows an early love of Star Wars while embedding vital core values like courage and empathy. With each young Jedi representing different aspects of what it means to be a Jedi, such as bravery, curiosity, intellect, and loyalty, it’s a wonderful series showing how to navigate friendship and responsibility!
Agatha All Along
Following the events of WandaVision, Agatha(Kathryn Hahn) finds herself in a bit of a predicament, that is, until a mysterious teen helps her regain her magic and uncover a new coven! Agatha All Along allows the MCU to further explore its magical side, with the scene-stealing work of Hahn, and an exceptional cast including Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, and Patti LuPone.
The tone of this series blends dark comedy, gothic horror, and supernatural drama all into a deeper magical history inside the MCU. So once you’re done binge-watching WandaVision, quickly jump right into Agatha All Along and make a whole weekend out of it!
The Bad Batch
The Bad Batch follows an elite group of clones (all voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) in the aftermath of Order 66, as they navigate a changing galaxy and work on discovering what their own paths will be beyond the Republic.
The relationship between the squad and Omega ( Michelle Ang) is a very special part of the series, along with how it provides viewers with rich lore about the world of Star Wars as well as gives some emotional depth to the characters of the clone troopers, Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Echo, and Crosshair. If you found yourself a fan of The Clone Wars or Rebels, like I am, then The Bad Batch is certainly worth a spot on your next binge-watch list!
