Top 10 Shows on Disney+ This Week!

Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, The Falcon And The Winter Soldier follows Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), as they team up on a global adventure that tests both their abilities and their patience! Surrounded by an excellent supporting cast of Wyatt Russell, who plays John Walker, Daniel Bruhl, playing Baron Zemo, and Emily VanCamp, playing Sharon Carter, this series had one of the biggest Disney+ debuts.

Exploring the vital themes of legacy, identity, and socio-political themes, this Marvel series deeply resonates with audiences and keeps it relevant well beyond its premiere. At its core, the series is about what it means to take up the mantle of being a hero, specifically the legacy of the hero Captain America. Wilson, who was handed the Captain America shield by Steve Rogers, struggles over whether or not he should accept this large responsibility because of the past and present issues of the country surrounding heroism and race. Meanwhile, Bucky is fighting with the guilt of his past being a brainwashed assassin and works to try to find redemption.

This series has a very unique way of being able to have a buddy-action banter vibe while seamlessly weaving in action-packed sequences with political commentary and even its critiques on nationalism, militarism, and the overall idea of just who gets to be the symbol of justice. A series that might appear to be just a bridge between MCU phases is so much more than that. But why should you watch it this week? Well, on May 28, Captain America: Brave New World hits Disney+, and what better way to prepare for it than this!

Lilo & Stitch: The Series

With the buzz surrounding the live-action Lilo & Stitch film, what a perfect time for fans or newcomers to visit this original series on Disney+! This series follows the 2002 film and follows Lilo (voiced by Daveigh Chase) and Stitch (voiced by Chris Sanders), as they capture and rehabilitate Jumba’s 625 other genetic experiments! This helps to turn them from chaotic creatures to helpful members of society.

Each episode follows Lilo & Stitch, with appearances by the strong supporting cast members, such as Tia Carrere (Nani), Kevin McDonald (Pleakley), and David Ogden Stiers (Jumba), as they work to find their “cousins“. This animated series has a “monster-of-the-week format but with much more heart.

The series does an excellent job of working to balance fast-paced adventures with emotional storytelling across its two-season run, and it does an incredible job of exploring the culture of Hawaiian life through vibrant animation! Over 60 episodes, you’ll find that whether you’re revisiting or introducing it to younger viewers, the show is a joyful reminder that family means no one gets left behind or forgotten!

Loki

After Loki (Tom Hiddleston) steals the Tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame, an alternative version of Loki, from back in 2012, is brought to the Time Variance Authority (TVA), which leads him on a mysterious journey through time and space, alongside Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson), Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), and Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku).

The TVA monitors the multiverse for branched realities like the one Loki created, prunes rogue timelines, and quickly grabs him. Mobius, instead of erasing Loki, uses him to track down an even bigger threat to the timeline. Through two seasons, this series evolves from a fast-paced mystery into a deeply layered character study with some sci-fi spectacles blended in.

With Jonathan Major’s chilling portrayal of He Who Remains, its retro-futuristic design, and the beautifully haunting soundtrack from Natalie Holt, it’s hardly a surprise Loki pulled such record numbers during its Disney launch, such as how in the first five days of viewership, 2.5 million U.S households were tuning in! Loki delivers on all fronts, which isn’t much of a shock from the God who is always full of surprises!

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

A Star Wars animated series that delves into the events between Episodes II and Episode III, The Clone Wars, focuses on the battles between the Republic and Separatists, and the personal journeys of Anakin Skywalker (voiced by Matt Lanter), Obi-Wan Kenobi (voiced by James Arnold Taylor), Ahsoka Tano (voiced by Ashley Eckstein), and the Clone Troopers (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker).

Building a legacy as one of the most important and beloved chapters in all of the Star Wars universe, The Clone Wars, debuting in 2008, evolved into a deeply emotional, rich story that filled in so many critical gaps between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Over seven seasons, the show dives into moral complexity, war ethics, loyalty, identity, and the eventual fall of the Jedi Order. In my opinion, one of the biggest parts of the show is our introduction to Anakin’s Padawan, Ahsoka Tano!

The series remains a fan favorite for how it allows fans to deeply understand these characters and the moral complexities during wartime whether you’re a new fan looking to get a better understanding of the Star Wars saga, or a longtime fan like myself, who will happily rewatch the series time and time again, The Clone Wars is considered to be essential viewing and should be considered one of the top 10 shows you must watch on Disney plus this week!

The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire (Return of the Jedi), and follows Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), a lone Mandalorian bounty hunter, as he navigates the outer reaches of the galaxy and forms an unexpected bond with a mysterious child known as Grogu. We’re able to watch along as he creates memories with allies and enemies with the likes of Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), Cara Dune (Gina Carano), Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), and Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison)!

Considered to be one of Disney’s biggest series, it has introduced us to iconic characters and delivered some incredible storytelling that appeals to both longtime fans and newcomers, and each season, the stakes get higher and higher! From exploring the incredible mystery surrounding Grogu’s force sensitivity (and who he is in general!) to the politics and background of the Mandalorian people and the dark saber, The Mandalorian can expand the Star Wars lore without losing its character-first focus!

Full of myth, action, heart, and having the cutest scene-stealer that instantly stole the hearts of viewers, The Mandalorian honors the legacy of the original trilogy while also forging its own path! If you’ve managed not to watch this series, I think it’s about time you dove in!

This show earns a spot on this week’s top 10 shows on Disney+, and you must watch it because it is more than just a show about food! It’s about culture, family, history, and the powerful connection between people and what they eat!

Tucci brings infectious curiosity to every episode, and you can feel his appreciation for every moment through each episode, which makes you want to continue to follow him on the journey, whether he’s kneading dough with a grandmother in Naples or debating the best carbonara in Rome, and that’s not even mentioning the stunning visuals and cinematography shown throughout the series!

Hawkeye

Another Marvel series included in this week’s top 10 shows on Disney+ is Hawkeye! Hawkeye follows Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and his team-up with young archer Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) as they confront enemies from Barton’s past as Ronin and work to mentor Kate to take up his Hawkeye mantel in New York City over the holidays.

This series does an excellent job of blending humor, action, and heartfelt moments while being able to smoothly introduce new characters like Kate Bishop and Echo/Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) into the MCU as well as brings in fan favorites like Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), creating depth and crossover intrigue to the MCU timeline.

Even with only six episodes, Hawkeye manages to blend street-level stakes with big-hearted storytelling, showing there are many different ways to make compelling MCU television. This is the perfect series for those who want some great Marvel-level action, but that is still a little more down-to-earth than the others!

Dance Moms

With a cast of Coach Abby Lee Miller, Maddie Ziegler, Chloe Lukasiak, Nia Sioux, Kendall Vertes, and JoJo Siwa, among others, Dance Moms follows the young dancers of Abby Lee Dance Company as they train and compete. The intense dynamics between the dancers, their ambitious mothers, and the demanding coach of Abby Lee Miller have kept it in the spotlight with a large resurgence in viewership, thanks to streaming platforms such as Disney+.

The drama does not just happen on the dance floor, though, as most of the intense drama happens off stage with so many clashing personalities, demanding choreography, and intense parent rivalries! You’ll find yourself unable to look away pretty quickly! Let’s not forget Abby Lee Miller’s dynamic as a mentor and drill sergeant, as she’s commonly referred to, as her tough-love coaching style pushes for perfection but naturally sparks plenty of confrontations.

Whether you’re choosing to turn in for the backstage blowups or the incredible solo dances, Dance Moms is a reality series that is loud, very messy, and incredibly emotional. So, what are you waiting for? Start practicing your moves and get ready to dive into one of the top 10 shows on Disney+ this week!

Star Wars Rebels

Before there was The Mandalorian or Ahsoka, there was Star Wars Rebels. This series laid the vital groundwork for what is now the more modern expansion of the Star Wars Universe! Dave Filoni created Star Wars Rebels is an animated series set between Episodes III and IV. It follows a group of rebels fighting against the Empire’s tyranny.

The rebels, Ezra Bridger (Taylor Grey), Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze Jr), Hera Syndulla (Vanessa Marshall), Sabine Wren (Tiya Sircar), and Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios (Steve Blum), might not realize it at first. Still, they are vital pieces of the puzzle for the larger Rebel Alliance. As the series goes on, you’ll be reintroduced to huge characters like Ahsoka Tano, Darth Maul, Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Darth Vader looms over everything. It might have started as a bridge between the trilogies but quickly became much more. It enriches them, answers some critical questions through personal backstories, and sets up the chance to have live-action shows like Ahsoka, which we have now!

With its compelling characters, connections to broader Star Wars lore, and the emotional weight it so brilliantly holds, the series continues to bring in viewers, both re-watchers and first timers, and helps them to get a much deeper understanding of the galaxy, the war, and the Rebel Alliance. This Top 10 show on Disney Plus is some of our finest Star Wars storytelling.
