The Boys

This critically acclaimed series is not your typical superhero genre series…not even close. Developed by Eric Kripke and based on the comic series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys dives into a world where superheroes are “Supes”; they’re commercialized, often corrupt, and completely challenge the traditional notions of heroism.

There are two main groups in the series, one being The Seven. This group is managed by the very unstable and violent Homelander (Anthony Starr) and is comprised of a superhero team put together by the powerful corporation Vought International. Then, you have The Boys, a group of vigilantes, including Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), who are hard at work trying to expose the truth about the Supes and hold them accountable for their actions.

Other important cast members that round out this incredible cast include Erin Moriarty as Starlight/Annie January, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Chace Crawford as Adam/The Deep, and Laz Alonso as Marvin T. Milk/Mother’s Milk, with some great guest stars like Charlize Theron, Will Ferrell, Jensen Ackles, and Jeffery Dean Morgan.

Full of themes like power, corruption, and the consequences of unchecked authority, The Boys often finds itself mirroring real-world societal issues. This hilarious series, with its very bold storytelling, has earned it multiple award nominations and a clear place on this week’s list of top 10 shows on Amazon to watch!

The Hitter, Eliot Spencer, portrayed by Christian Kane, is the muscle of the group and also mentors veterans through his food truck business. Then you have the Thief, Parker, played by Beth Riesgraf, whose quirky charm is central to the series, the Maker, Breanna Casey, portrayed by Aleyse Shannon, who brings fresh energy and expertise to the team, as well as the Fixer, Harry Wilson, played by Noah Wyle, who adds depth and a legal perspective to the group’s operations as he’s a former corporate lawyer seeking redemption!

The Chosen, created and directed by Dallas Jenkins, is a groundbreaking historical drama that offers a fresh portrayal of Jesus of Nazareth and his followers. This series stands out as the first multi-season television show that explores the life and ministry of Jesus through the perspective of those who encountered him.

What sets The Chosen apart from other traditional adaptations is the way the series emphasizes the socio-political context of first-century Judea under Roman occupation. With a strong focus on themes like oppression, resistance, and the complexities of faith, as well as the ability to focus on the human experiences of Mary Magdalene, Simon Peter, and Matthew the tax collector, it’s no surprise that The Chosen has had over 280 million viewers across 175 countries.

The Chosen has garnered quite a global audience since its debut in 2017, and with a stunning cast of Jonathan Roumie as Jesus, Shahar Issac, as Simon Peter, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene, and Para Patel as Matthew, the series does a great job of portraying a diverse array of individuals whose lives intersect with Jesus’s ministry!
