Tom Hanks to Narrate The Americas — A New Must-Watch Nature Series

Tom Hanks has been called “America’s Dad” for quite a while. Back in 2015, Esquire magazine penned a revealing article. The publication playfully called him “America’s Dad” because he’s a totally normal guy. The leading man from movies like Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, Cast Away, Sleepless in Seattle – to name a few – is an ordinary guy! A BBQ’ing family man. (Rita Wilson can verify.)

A Look at Tom Hanks’ Impressive Career

There are too many movies to name that Hanks has been in, but most people can rattle off at least 10. Tom Hanks has shown his impressive skills from television comedic roles, such as Kip on Bosom Buddies, to heroes (like in Sully), to deeply dramatic roles, all the way to highly driven characters, like Ben in The Post. He has played a wide variety of characters, often the lead, performed voice work, and additionally produces. Hanks has been a producer or an executive producer for over 60 programs.

Tom Hanks Lends Voice to The Americas

Since Tom is a huge fan of music (particularly rock), he has produced several documentaries covering musicians. We have a Billy Joel miniseries he recently released, entitled And So It Goes. He likes nature, too.

Now, in 2025, Hanks has written and narrated The Americas, which covers fascinating wildlife and captures beautiful scenery on both the North and South American continents. The series features Hanks narrating in collaboration with the works of different and extraordinarily talented cinematographers.

Producer Mike Gunton stated that working on The Americas with Hanks that the actor took to narration naturally. Regarding his love of wildlife, Hanks mused, “I would love to be called something specific: The best park ranger they’ve ever heard.” He could lend his dad-like qualities of patience and wisdom, just as a father would.

Whether it’s eagles flying or bears coming out of hibernation, Tom Hanks has given his all to both writing and narrating. He looks at the habits, lifestyle, and migration of all sorts of animals with the same wonder he had as Josh in Big.
