Warner Bros. recently gave us a look at The War of the Rohirrim at New York Comic-Con on Oct. 18th. The film is being produced by WBA and Sola Entertainment Production. It will be released on December 13th in the US and internationally two days earlier. Stylistically, the film hearkens back to the 1978 animated Lord of the Rings film.
War of the Rohirrim in LOTR Timeline
Chronologically speaking, the War of the Rohirrim is set roughly 200 years before the main trilogy. It is set 183 years ago during Rohan King’s reign at Helm Hammerhand, the fortress that later became Helm’s Deep. Not being directly connected to the main series means they don’t need to worry about the timeline. The writers avoided the film within the series timeline to establish an original narrative. This allows the writers to have more creative freedom with their storytelling while staying true to the LOTR series.
Animation and Style
The War of the Rohirrim takes a unique stylistic approach compared to past works thanks to film director, Kenji Kamiyama. Before this, the last significant animated LOTR work was the 1978 animated film. While some purists may not like it, the team believes this will introduce new viewers to the franchise.

Several other minor voice actors were also revealed, including Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, and Shaun Dooley.
