The Last of Us Cast Promises ‘Wild Roller Coaster Ride’ In Season 2

The Last of Us Season 2

The Last of Us was highly anticipated when it was announced that HBO would be making it into a series. It did not disappoint. The first season was nominated for 19 Emmy awards and won eight of them. Once the last episode ended, the hype for the second season immediately began. Fans have been trying to predict where the next season will take the storyline. The video game only has one sequel, but the show will likely try and set up future seasons, meaning they may deviate from the storyline. The first trailer for season 2 was released this week, and the cast is promising even crazier things than the trailer did not show.

The Last of Us season 2 picks up five years after the events of the first season. Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) have settled in Jackson, Wyoming, in a community run by Joel’s sister-in-law (Rutina Wesley). However, things look far from comfortable. “Every path has a price” was the tagline fans saw in an official sneak peek on Saturday at SXSW. The trailer reveals new threats outside of the fungus-infected monsters like the Seraphites and the WLFs. However, the cast and crew are teasing more.

Co-showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann made it clear the trailer only scratches the surface. “There’s some pretty intense stuff you don’t even see in the trailer,” Druckmann told the audience at a recent panel. Mazin echoed this statement, saying, “That world is louder, and it is more dangerous, and we have dug in. And, honestly, I think, if we don’t get canceled, next season will be even bigger.” He added at the end, “It’s crazier — it’s a wild roller coaster ride.”

Highly Anticipated

The Last of Us was one of the best video games for a reason. Great video games immerse players not only in the gameplay but in the story as well. The showrunners have done a great job building the type of tension that a post-apocalyptic zombie series should have. However, they take it a step further and make us really care about the characters. Four actors were nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, with Nick Offerman winning the award.

He and the other nominees were only in the series for a short time, and yet they were some of the most beloved characters in the series. This is what good writing can do. Mediocre shows have forgettable characters, and anything that deviates from the main characters feels like a waste of time. The Last of Us introduces us to many people as Joel and Ellie make their journey across the pandemic-stricken America, and we immediately feel connected.

Final Thoughts

The Last of Us season 2 is only a month away from premiering. Fans who have been craving the next chapter of the series will not have to wait long. The trailer has many intense moments, and that looks like only the beginning. We are in for a wild roller coaster ride this season, and we get to hang on and enjoy the ride.
