Adrian Grenier, who played Nate Cooper, the boyfriend of Anne Hathaway’s character Andy Sachs, is officially not coming back for the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.

The follow-up to the 2006 hit is already in production, and it’s bringing back some major star power: Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all returning, and Kenneth Branagh has joined the cast as well. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated to hit theatres on May 1, 2026.

What’s the Deal with Nate?

If you remember the original, Nate was a big part of Andy’s life until her rising career at Runway started to clash with their relationship. For years, he was framed as the sweet, grounded boyfriend. But over time, the internet kind of flipped the script, with fans calling him out for being unsupportive (and maybe even a bit of a jerk). Some even crowned him the actual villain of the film.

Grenier himself has acknowledged the backlash in past interviews, admitting he could see why people weren’t thrilled with Nate’s behavior.

“He could’ve been more supportive,” he once said. Fair point.

What’s Andy Up To These Days?

While Nate’s sitting this one out with The Devil Wears Prada 2, the focus shifts back to Andy, and she’s doing just fine. Anne Hathaway recently hinted that her character is now working at a top women’s magazine in France. We don’t have all the details yet, but it sounds like she’s thriving.

This time around, The Devil Wears Prada 2 will zero in on Miranda Priestly (Streep) as she grapples with the challenges of modern media and publishing. Meanwhile, Emily Blunt’s character has come a long way from being the frazzled assistant; she’s now a powerhouse in the ad world. Talk about a glow-up.

And with Kenneth Branagh stepping in as a new face, The Devil Wears Prada 2, there’s something fresh brewing in the Prada universe.

Sure, some folks might be bummed that Nate won’t be around for The Devil Wears Prada 2. But let’s be real, this sequel feels like it’s steering toward a smarter, sharper story. And honestly, Andy’s story might just shine brighter without the guy who couldn’t handle her hustle.
