Welcome to the Culture Hound!
So this is a first. Welcome readers to The Culture Hound, a place where all dogs can figure out what makes this world tick and how other people are doing. This will be a twice-weekly newsletter dedicated to all things popular, weird, you name it. I can probably find it! Anyway, moving on!
So for the first ever piece of The Culture Hound *Cue the breaking open of the champagne bottle* We love a good glass of bubbly. Anyhow, I ramble a lot when I get nervous. But I had to think long and hard about what to write and post on my favorite site, Total Apex Entertainment.
Then I found it. Shinkansen’s in Japan have been hosting wrestling events, that’s right, sumo wrestling and regular wrestling events in their train cars. At least from one of the first articles that I saw pop up. But let’s look more into it, shall we? It is so fascinating watching us as humans recover from pandemics, right?
The Culture Hound: Japan and Wrestling?

Some people think it sounds like a weird combination. It is a quiet, peaceful train ride, and then, WHAM; you get body slammed while your chair rattles and rolls. And maybe you get a bit cranky after losing your lunch or coffee. Of course, it is all based on opinions.
Even though we think of Japan for its cleanliness, polite people, and probably many more slightly ignorant stereotypes here in the States, a Tokaido Shinkansen (or bullet train for those who are not weeaboos like the writer herself), along with hopefully other future Shinkansen, have included wrestling to gain more controversy and attention for the train company.
According to Japan Today, they made it so people could experience the unusual on the bullet train (just like what I am going for!). But DDT Pro-Wrestling president Sanshiro Takagi said, “I want to hold such events again as they left an impact on many fans.”
Tradition Returns

It seems like the journey has been dead since the start of this decade, so maybe this will spice things up after a hot mess of events in the COVID-19 era.
The company behind the line from Tokyo to Nagoya (aka the Nozomi line) also chimed in on the exclusive event in question, stating, “We want to continue creating experiences that meet the Nozomi (expectations) of customers.” What once seemed so long ago for yours truly was my trip to Japan, where I was always expected to be quiet and eat my pork sandwich in silence. I wouldn’t have honestly known how to react to a sudden wrestling event. Wow, I ramble and rant too much.
All in All
This is one for the books. There is plenty more to go, after all. Goodbye, for now, readers. See you on Tuesday!
Now. If you want to see more unnecessary stuff, rambles, rants (oh my), and more reports on this new and strange world’s makings, please click on my profile!
NEW and on the scene (hopefully): The Culture Hound (a possible Newsletter dedicated to the unusual and pop culture in our world today) is on Tuesdays and Saturdays every week. Until we hear otherwise.
