The Conjuring: Last Rites – One Final Paranormal Chapter Begins

The Conjuring: Last Rites

It’s time to step back into the paranormal world of the Ed and Lorraine Warren in ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites‘. This sees the return of Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as The Warrens, a pair of paranormal investigators who deal with demons and cursed objects. Also in the cast is Mia Tomlinson as Judy Warren, daughter of the paranormal investigators, who was previously played by Sterling Jerins (The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and The Nun) and Mckenna Grace (Annabelle Comes Home), and Ben Hardy as Tony Spera, husband of Judy Warren.

This film follows the Warrens on their last case, which was the Summer Family haunting back in 1986 in Pennsylvania. This will put them to the test as they confront entities like they’ve never faced before.

One Last Ride for The Warrens

This movie sees James Wan, who directed the first two movies in The Conjuring film series, return as producer. Stepping back into the director’s chair is Michael Chaves, who is no stranger to the world of the Conjuring. The last time he was in this world was in 2021’s ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’ and The Nun 2. Wan states in an EW (Entertainment Weekly) article about Farmiga and Willson as the Warrens, “The beating heart of this franchise is Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson playing Ed and Lorraine.

The family dynamic, the faith the characters have, and the faith that they have in each other are really the things that drive this particular franchise. I do think that’s what people love about it. At least for me and Peter Safran, it’s really about finding a way to tell the stories of these characters and to wrap them up in a way that feels respectful to where we started with them.”

A Haunting Life of a Franchise

The Conjuring film series has had a life of its own with the mainline of film and spin-off films, nine altogether if you include the upcoming movie, an upcoming TV series set to hit Warner Bros. Discovery’s MAX, a comic book series, and tie- short films called the ‘3:07.A.M. Project’, which was an anthology film short film series.

Even though this may be the end of the Warrens, this doesn’t mean the end of a franchise of movies.  We will continue to see them bring life to the world of The Conjuring for as long as possible. The longevity goes to show that this series of movies is far beyond loved and will continue to draw a crowd as long as they stay interesting.

The Conjuring: Last Rites is due in theaters September 5th, 2025.
