Wolf, an expert robber and pickpocket, is the crew’s leader. Alongside him are the team’s safecracker, Snake, and Tarantula, the talented hacker. The last two crewmates are Piranha, the muscle, and Shark, the master of disguise. Together, they are The Bad Guys, the city’s most wanted collection of lawbreakers.
Their story begins when they plan to rob a gala of a valuable statue. Everything goes well until a tiny mishap from Wolf gets The Bad Guys caught. To avoid jail, Wolf desperately talks with Governor Foxington and Professor Marmalade. Wolf insists he and his friends can be good if given the chance. Professor Marmalade accepts the proposal, supporting the idea that there’s good in everyone. However, Wolf informs his crew that his pleading is part of a grander scheme.

Based on the children’s books written by Aaron Blabey, The Bad Guys has various inspirations. The most apparent are Ocean’s Eleven, Lupin III, and Pulp Fiction. Wolf, for example, is a charming combination of Danny Ocean and Lupin the Third. The film also has a colorful comic book aesthetic identical to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. And undoubtedly, these details will carry over to The Bad Guys 2.

The Bad Guys 2 brings back the beloved team of animal criminals. The Bad Guys struggle to adjust to their new lives as good guys. However, a crew of an all-female team of crooks makes the shift harder. Wolf and the team must perform one last job, but the reason is unknown. Natasha Lyonne is currently the only new cast member, though her role is unknown. Along with actors, crew members from the previous movie are joining the project. Pierre Perifel will reclaim his role as director, and the co-director will be JP Sans. Damon Ross will be the producer, and Daniel Pemberton will compose the music.
