The Amazing World of Gumball Is Back, And It’s Wonderful

The Amazing World of Gumball, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball.

Earlier today, Cartoon Network International posted a teaser trailer for The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, a sequel series to the award-winning The Amazing World of Gumball. Produced by Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball is set for release later this year on Hulu in the United States and HBO Max in other countries.

“Welcome back to Elmore, where the laws of reality are a joke, and family life is anything but ordinary. Whether he’s battling an evil fast-food empire, facing off against a sentient AI in love with his mom, or trying to stop Banana Joe from wearing pants — Gumball Watterson drags his brother Darwin, sister Anais, and the rest of the town of Elmore along for the ride. With even wilder stories, bigger twists, and surreal humor, the show is so amazing that they had to rename it!”

The Creative Team Behind The Amazing World of Gumball Returns

Created and executive produced by Ben Bocquelet (who also created the original show) The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball is a quarter-hour animated comedy that blends an eclectic mix of media styles — including 2D & 3D animation, puppetry, CGI, photorealism, and live action — into a wonderfully imaginative world characterized by its sharp meta humor and vibrant visuals.

While some of the voice cast are returning in Dan Russell and Teresa Gallagher — the parents Richard and Nicole Watterson, respectively —   new voice actors are taking on the roles of the children. Alkaio Thiel takes on the titular role of Gumball, as Hero Hunter portrays his brother Darwin, and Kinza Syed Khan plays the younger sister Anaise.

What to Expect From the New Show

The teaser trailer is just over a minute long, so not much is shown, but a few things are shown. Elmore, at least the block the Wattersons live on, seems much the same after Gumball sneezes the dust away. Gumball seems to be wearing a new shirt, while Darwin keeps to his conservative “shoes and nothing else” look.

“What an amazing opportunity to play with these characters again! Fans can look forward to plenty more antics and misadventures in Elmore because Gumball and Darwin haven’t grown up much since we last saw them… we haven’t either.”

Creator Ben Bocquelet, and Executive Producers Matt Layzell and Erik Fountain

“We thought it was about time that Gumball and the rest of the gang woke up from their catnap, to do what they do best, and delight more fans with distinctive humor, visual inventiveness, and wild adventures. Guided by the immense talents of Ben, Matt, Eric, and team, the new series continues Gumball’s legacy as one of the most iconic, groundbreaking, and beloved Cartoon Network shows of all time.”

In Conclusion

Having grown up watching The Amazing World of Gumball, I can’t wait for more news about this series. I was a bit sad that the original cast wouldn’t be fully returning, but from the teaser, the new actors sound dead on! With the original creative team returning, I have full trust that this will be a faithful return to form for our favorite blue cat and his fishy brother.
